Appointment will be made on CNM 2 Pay scale (€60,854 - €76,897) at a point in line with Government pay policy.

Position Summary:
The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Manager for the TPN service is to take a lead role in ensuring the care delivered to patients requiring TPN is in line with best practice guidelines and the Safer Better Healthcare Standards.
While this role is aligned to the Surgical Directorate, the TPN CNM will provide a hospital-wide service in conjunction with the relevant disciplines.
ResponsibilitiesPrincipal Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality: Use a quality framework to plan and deliver a high-quality service to patients who require TPN.Actively participate in clinical audit and research related to TPN and CVAD management at directorate and hospital level.
Promote the highest standards of care across the hospital in relation to TPN and related CVAD management.
Take a proactive role in the formulation and provision of evidence-based PPPGs relating to TPN.Develop and lead quality improvement plans with the relevant stakeholders to address areas where practice is below the required standard.
Participate in additional directorate audits e.g., hand hygiene audits, environmental hygiene audits, etc.
Patient Focus:
Provide education and support for patients receiving TPN.Develop and monitor patient information material in line with hospital policy.
Promote and participate in the collection of patient feedback for the purpose of service development improvement.
Clinical Focus:
Promote and support the delivery of high-quality care to patients receiving TPN.Maintain a database of patients receiving TPN, capturing key clinical information in respect of TPN activity.
Act as a resource and provide clinical expertise in the area of TPN and related Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) management.
Play an active role in teaching all disciplines as required.
Use relevant educational opportunities to maintain the highest standards and up-to-date care offered to patients requiring TPN.Work with local Clinical Nurse Managers and Clinical Practice Support Nurses to achieve and maintain RGN competence in relation to TPN and CVAD management.
Link with the Microbiology Enhanced Surveillance Team in relation to adverse events associated with TPN.
Leadership & Management:
Demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to lead a quality service.
Demonstrate the ability to self-manage and meet the needs of the service in a timely manner.
Lead and participate on relevant committees and working groups as required, including formulating reports to communicate issues around TPN activity to the Parenteral Nutrition Committee.
Demonstrate the ability to identify and meet personal professional development objectives related to the role.
Communication:
Develop strong communication links with the relevant stakeholders both internally and externally.
Foster a strong interdisciplinary approach to all aspects of the role.
Maintain an activity database on an ongoing basis and create an annual report on the activity pertaining to the role for the Directorate Nurse Manager and the Director of Nursing.
Present data as required at service meetings.
Keep relevant clinical areas up to date on current trends in relation to TPN.
QualificationsSelection Criteria:
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.

Mandatory:
Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc:Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.
Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregate of 5 years full-time post registration experience), of which 2 years must be in the specialty or related area.
Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
Demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
Annual registration:
On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
