Alliance Medical are currently hiring a Medical Physicist (Radiation Protection Advisor & Medical Physics Expert) for our centre in Limerick.The medical physicist will provide physics and radiation protection support to the diagnostic imaging services in Alliance Medical Diagnostic Imaging, and associated businesses including X-ray, DXA, CT, Interventional Radiology, Fluoroscopy and PET/CT.
The Medical Physicist will provide scientific support to ensure that medical physics services are delivered safely, effectively, in compliance with all relevant regulations, and to the necessary standards set by professional bodies. Duties to Include:Provide scientific support in the role of Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) and Medical Physics Expert (MPE) for all modalities within allocated AMDI ionising radiation centres within Republic of Ireland - ensuring that the service functions effectively, in compliance with all relevant regulations, and to the necessary standards set by professional bodies.Provide consultation and support for: The design and construction of any new buildings or facilities.
Modifications to any existing buildings or facilities.
Changes to the use of any buildings or adjoining buildings where radiation is used.
The acquisition of any new X-ray units or radioactive sources.
Implementation of new procedures involving any licensed item.
The estimation of doses to workers, members of the public and patientsProvide ongoing support for new protocols/services in sites including: Developing protocols and procedures for new applications.
Carrying out of appropriate risk assessments; Assist in the specification of new equipment and software, and upgrades to same and the planning and design of new equipmentContribute to the optimisation of the radiation protection of patients and other individuals subject to medical exposure, including the application and use of diagnostic reference levelsUndertake the acceptance testing of medical radiological equipmentEstablishment of QA programme, baseline assessment and annual QA / Physics testing for all modalities within allocated AMDI ionising radiation centresAcquire and maintain a high level of professional competence in the performance of all tests, investigations and measurements carried outInterpret and act upon results of tests, investigations and measurements in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and quality systems Comment and advise on new proposals and protocols, especially for service improvements Be responsible for the optimal and safe use of scientific procedures and highly complex equipment, including recording all maintenance and calibration procedures performed and any corrective actions undertaken.
Participation and appropriate involvement in external regulatory inspections Contribute to the training of practitioners and other members of the team in relevant aspects of radiation protection.
Contribute to audits to inform patient management and clinical careContribute to the analysis of events leading to incidents and/or accidents involving ionising radiation, advise on reportability requirements to the regulators for SI 30 & SI 256, advise on appropriate corrective actions.Acquire and maintain a high level of professional competence in the performance of all tests, investigations and measurements carried out.
