Job Summary:
The responsibility of the Early Years Educator is to work collaboratively to ensure the smooth day to day running of the ECEC/ SAC classroom and collaborative work with staff and centre manager in order to meet the holistic needs of the children attending the service.
Role and Responsibilities
* Work cooperatively and professionally as a member of a team, to provide a high-quality early education and care programme to all children attending the service
* Support the smooth day to day running of the classroom, including appropriate planning and implementation of the daily routine
* Provide children with developmentally appropriate learning experiences which can be adapted to their individual needs and emerging interests
* Have a working knowledge of Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and an understanding of the application of Aistear in all aspects of pedagogy, including planning and supporting children’s learning and development.
* Engage with the Siolta framework to support the improvement of quality in the classroom and promote a holistic approach to quality provision.
* Work in partnership with staff to ensure the safety and well-being of the children in the service and to implement and adhere to the standards and policies of the centre and the Childcare Regulations.
* Inspire, enable and motivate staff to take an active lead in the classroom based on individual strengths
* Support collaboration amongst the Early Years Educators in the classroom
* Be a positive role model at all times
* Ensure good standards of hygiene, regularly checking and ensuring equipment is safe, preparing classrooms and tidying of same after each session in compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
* Have an excellent knowledge of child development
* Record the progress of key children on an ongoing basis
* Keep up-to-date records of daily register, accidents, fire drills, etc.
* Have strong communication skills in dealing with children and parents and promote parental partnership
* Have a high regard for personal and professional development and for the personal and professional development of others
* Good practice regarding observations, documentation and curriculum planning and development.
* Ensure the voice, needs and rights of the child underpin all aspects of pedagogy
* Ensure the health and safety of children
* Maintain good communication with all senior staff including the service coordinator, centre manager and senior staff.
Essential Requirements
* Minimum QQI level 5 qualification in ECEC/ Childcare (QQI level 6 is desirable)
* 3 years’ experience working in an Early Years setting is desirable.
* Have a positive outlook and a commitment to supporting and empowering young children and their families.
* Highly motivated with a positive and compassionate outlook.
* Good interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
* Ability to generate strong team morale, cooperation, and participation.
* Uphold high standards of honesty, ethics, and integrity.
