ATG are seeking a highly motivated Offshore Environmental Scientist to join a dynamic consultancy team in Galway.
This role involves working on offshore environmental assessments, marine ecological surveys, and impact assessments for renewable energy, oil & gas, and infrastructure projects.
You will be responsible for collecting and analysing marine environmental data, preparing technical reports, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct offshore environmental surveys, including marine ecology, water quality, and benthic habitat assessments.Support Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Appropriate Assessments (AAs), and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs).Collect, analyse, and interpret environmental data from offshore and coastal sites.Ensure compliance with national and international environmental regulations and industry best practices.Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, ecologists, and GIS specialists.Contribute to client reports, environmental management plans, and mitigation strategies.Engage with regulatory authorities and stakeholders as required.Support the planning and execution of offshore survey logistics, including vessel-based operations.Minimum RequirementsA degree in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Oceanography, or a related field.2+ years of experience in offshore environmental surveys or marine consultancy.Strong knowledge of marine ecology, environmental legislation, and offshore monitoring techniques.Experience with data collection methods such as grab sampling, ROV surveys, or eDNA analysis.Ability to analyse and interpret marine ecological data, including GIS mapping skills.Knowledge of Irish and EU environmental regulations, including Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and Water Framework Directive (WFD).Willingness to work offshore for extended periods and ability to obtain relevant offshore safety certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET, or STCW).Experience with environmental permitting processes for offshore developments.Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, PRIMER, ArcGIS).Knowledge of marine mammal monitoring and mitigation measures.Familiarity with remote sensing technologies and underwater acoustics.
