Environmental and Sustainability Advisor Role
The Environmental and Sustainability Advisor will assist the Environmental and Sustainability Manager and the ESG team in supporting the business in all matters relating to Sustainability management and compliance, as well as progressing and achieving the company's Sustainability goals. The role will be a Champion for ESG in the business, based in Head Office, requiring regular visits to all live projects.
Main Duties:
1. Construction Site Support:
* Provide technical expertise and support to the Health Safety and Environmental Team, Site Management teams, Site-based ESG Champions, and other business units on all matters relating to environmental management and ESG.
* Conduct site visits to review environmental and ESG-related performance and carry out health checks/verification of site Environmental plans, documentation, records, data, and effectiveness of these in the field.
* Partake in HSE audits and assist teams in the close-out of any environmental and ESG-related non-conformities.
* Develop Environmental and ESG plans for projects at pre-construction and tender stage.
* Assist in external audits (for ISO 14001, Carbon verification, and CSRD assessment) in terms of the company Environmental Management system and ESG reporting.
* Assist in conducting full investigations of significant unplanned environmental events or incidents that occur on site.
* Provide ongoing support for Site teams for ESG data reporting on software platforms. Monitor data collected from every site for ESG, flag issues or gaps that may arise to the Environmental & Sustainability Manager, and encourage and help site teams to rectify same.
* Provide support in HPI/LEED/BREEAM/EU Taxonomy/LCA and other Client required programs as may be required.
2. Corporate Strategy Development and Deliverables:
* Develop and deliver Environmental and ESG-related training and communications (training presentations, internal and external briefings, toolbox talks, Q&A sessions, Lessons Learnt, social media posts, posters, guidance notes, etc.).
* Preparation of Award annual submissions and other Environmental/Sustainability related Awards as may arise.
* Collate and analyse environmental/ESG KPI information for monthly Senior Management Review meetings, ESG Committee meetings, and Board meetings.
* Work with the Environmental and Sustainability Manager in the preparation of the corporate annual Sustainability Report and assist in preparing for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSDR).
* Support the company ESG Committee in its meetings, discussions, and objectives. Assist the Committee in problem-solving and finding innovative solutions to environmental and sustainability challenges.
* Engage with our supply chain and vendors relating to environmental and sustainability requirements, performance, and improvement.
* Monitor and share guidance on emerging sustainability and environmental-related legislation, policy, and industry best practice and trends, advising on potential risks associated with emerging legislation and recommend solutions, including oversight and governance on Article 27 and 28, LCA (Life Cycle Assessments), and other programs being adopted within the construction industry.
* Represent Walls Construction on industry committees and other groups, and liaise with various representative bodies, membership organizations, in relation to environment.
Requirements:
* Minimum 1-3 years of experience in Environmental/Sustainability management or equivalent role.
* Bachelor's Degree/Third-level education in a related Environmental, Sustainability, or Construction sector discipline.
* Knowledge in the implementation and auditing of Environmental Management Systems to ISO 14001 standard.
* Knowledge and competency in specific ESG topics - biodiversity, ecology, preservation, and mitigation measures regarding SPA, SAC, and nHA, water management, waste management, and circular economy, carbon and GHG's management, social governance topics such as EDI.
* Working knowledge of construction-specific environmental regulatory requirements such as Waste Management, Circular economy including Article 27 and 28's.
* Experience with industry Best Practice and customer requirements such as LCA, LEED, BREEAM, HPI, and EU Taxonomy would beneficial.
* Ability to interpret and develop specific environmental management plans for construction projects.
* Awareness of CSRD requirements and reporting.
* Ability to work as an independent self-starter and manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
* Passionate about ESG and to act as a dedicated ESG Champion with a high level of professionalism and confidence. To work effectively with colleagues from all levels of the organization, including senior leaders, project, and site managers, and our supply chain.
* Strong verbal, written communication, and presentation skills and good competence in use of I.T.
