Offer Description
INFANT Research Centre is now accepting applications for an enthusiastic and committed individual to work within the team based at the INFANT Research Centre in Cork University Hospital & Cork University Maternity Hospital. Many of our studies require a physiotherapy assessment of infants and older children.
Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common lifelong physical disability. The Elevate programme aims to improve both the Early Detection of Cerebral Palsy, and the outcomes for those with CP. The Elevate program will also include several intervention studies for those identified as high risk for CP or who have developed CP.
A Research Physiotherapist is sought to support the Elevate programme of research. The individual will be involved in the follow-up of high-risk infants and will be required to perform specific standardised assessments including the General Movements assessment, the HINE exam, AIMS and Bayley Scales of Infant Development. Knowledge of these assessments would be an advantage. Additional responsibilities will include supervision and administration of therapy in the intervention studies. Training will be provided on the specific techniques used in the intervention studies, but experience in providing therapy interventions for children with CP is preferred. Additional responsibilities will include data collection and data entry to research databases.
All researchers involved in the ELEVATE programme will actively participate in PPI and EPE activities and we will provide training for these activities.
This is a full time (1FTE) position however part time 2 x 0.5FTE hours will also be considered.
Responsibilities
* Support the research programme by delivering standardised neurodevelopmental assessments for newborn infants and older children as required in the research programme.
* Provide interventions for research studies as per research protocols.
* Provide a high standard of work within a multi-professional research team.
* Ensure clinical research is conducted in accordance with clinical research protocols.
* Prepare and present content that explains the research to groups outside of clinical and research domains to stimulate interest in and understanding of research.
* Support EPE champions on the project to prepare and deliver engaging events.
* Regularly assess the needs of the research project/area and effect any changes as required.
* Manage own workload, patient interviews, and co-coordinating investigations and procedures and arranging any follow up necessary for complex research trials, as required.
* Develop effective working partnerships with staff, ensuring the two-way flow of all necessary documentation and information.
* Report adverse events to Principal Investigator or his/her nominee and ensure completion of appropriate documentation.
* Inform the Principal Investigator or his/her nominee of any untoward incidents or problem areas affecting the research project/area.
* Compile information for and accurately complete project reports for delegated studies.
* Take responsibility for the ongoing development and implementation of INFANT’s operational management systems, policies, procedures and best practices.
* Identify and implement efficiencies and improvements within INFANT’s operational processes and procedures.
* Oversee the daily operational management of the HR aspects of INFANT, including staff recruitment, onboarding and induction, and other aspects of administration and ensuring all such activities are in compliance with UCC policy in this regard.
* Help to coordinate recruitment processes, including cost analysis of posts to be advertised and liaison with UCC HR, as well as relevant School/College Offices.
* Maintain and develop the Quality Management System for the department, including oversight and preparation of INFANT applications.
* Work with the lab manager to manage and to continuously improve the suite of SOPs relating to lab procedures as well as health and safety, ensuring full compliance across the department.
* Lead and coordinate the preparation and submission of annual and other reports to SFI, and other funders as appropriate, ensuring timely and accurate receipt of required information from researchers across all partner institutions.
* Assist with the tracking of metrics/KPIs and the development and deployment of an impact assessment framework to track the department’s impact across various domains.
* Manage the preparation of the department’s reporting materials for internal and external accountability processes, specifically the management of the department’s internal biannual reporting and input of data to SFI's bespoke grants management system (SESAME).
* Facilitate the development of funding proposals and the growth of national and international research partnerships. Work with the Funding Manager to support the development and tracking of research grant proposals by all Institute staff.
* Work in partnership with other groups in UCC and beyond, and other key partners, to realise opportunities for the unit.
* Assist in the preparation and dissemination of project information and promotional material for stakeholders, including newsletters and annual reports etc.
* Work with the Business Development team to develop relationships with industry and assist in the management of existing industry partnerships.
* Deputise for the PIs as required.
Specific Requirements
* A graduate qualification in a field or discipline relevant to the area of investigation i.e. BA, BSc, MSc or PhD.
* Post graduate qualification in Business, Finance or Project Management. At least 10 years management experience in a research-active entity, to include human resources management and experience of managing a team in a research environment.
* Excellent programme management skills and a demonstrated track record of managing multiple projects with evidence of good management practice.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with staff, students and stakeholders.
* Ability to develop good working relationships.
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary research team environment and working with people from a wide range of cultures.
* Capacity to manage and prioritise a high workload, with a track record of delivering results under pressure and on time.
* Excellent IT skills including MS Office, spreadsheet packages, and SmartSimple platforms such as SESAME.
* Demonstrated experience in team-building and problem solving.
* Demonstrated track record in managing research grant income from National and International funding bodies.
* Project management experience in a large complex organisation with multiple stakeholders, as relevant to the role.
* Experience with industry collaborations in an academic research environment.
* Experience with the preparation of research reporting materials for internal and external accountability processes such as those used by SFI, HRB, Enterprise Ireland.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Excellent time management, organisational skills and ability to multitask and prioritise work effectively.
* Candidates must, on appointment, be registered on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.
* On appointment the physiotherapist must maintain annual registration on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU and provide evidence of same.
* Registered with or meeting the requirements for registration with Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.
* A minimum of 5 years post graduate experience with a minimum of 3 years in paediatrics/neonates.
* Strong IT and data management skills.
* Training in or experience of working with Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) Guidelines.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Clinical research experience/interest in clinical research.
* Demonstrable achievements in delivering results.

* Able to perform the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Exam.
* Able to perform the Peabody Developmental Motor Scale.
* Able to perform the Gross Motor Function Measure.
* Able to perform Bayley Scale of Infant Development.
* Proven experience of carrying out research in a relevant research speciality.
* Experience of working on clinical studies.
* Experience of working within a multidisciplinary healthcare clinical team.
* Qualification in Lean management or similar.
* Track record in raising/managing research grant income from National and European funding bodies.
* Experience of budget management and managing industry collaborations in a research environment.
* A broad understanding of the centre and related fields including an appreciation for the needs, priorities and associated challenges for industries within this sector.
