The Engagement and Education Officer will play a key role in delivering the NRCT’s community engagement and environmental education objectives. This role will be dynamic and there is great scope to make meaningful impact in inspiring community water stewardship across the Nore Catchment. The officer will work closely with other team members and report to the Project Leader.
The Project Officer: Engagement and Education will support the delivery of the NRCT Strategy across the catchment area, with a strong focus on community water stewardship, education, and community engagement. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Working closely with the Project Leader to achieve the strategic objectives of the NRCT.
* Assisting in the preparation of project proposals, including compiling funding applications and drafting project plans.
* Collaborating on the development and piloting of the Nore Learning Programme.
* Engaging, training, and supporting community volunteers in the implementation and operation of local initiatives.
* Developing a Community Wild Water lab.
* Organising public engagement events to inspire and facilitate community-led action.
Liaising with volunteers and partner agencies on seasonal projects, such as citizen science programmes and Himalayan balsam removal.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and social media skills.
* Ambitious, creative, motivated.
* A demonstrated record in science communication is highly desirable.
* Experience working with community groups and schools.
* A working knowledge of environmental science, ecology, marine biology, or a related field.
* Good IT skills, including proficiency in standard office and communication tools.
* A commitment to best practice, reflective practice, and continued professional development.
* The ability to be flexible, work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Terms: This is a fixed-term post, running from April 2025 to 30 March 2026, subject to funding. 16 hours per week @ €19,730 per annum. Subject to 3 month probation. Work can be out of hours at weekends/evenings at certain times of year.
