THE ROLE:
The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland West Region employ in excess of 1,900 staff providing services to over 2,000 adults and children with an intellectual disability across counties Galway and Roscommon. The ER Manager (post holder) is responsible for improving the employee experience, ensuring ER operational excellence and compliance, while improving HR efficiency. The position reports into the Head of HR. Working closely with the wider HR team, in particular 3 Human Resource Managers, Sector Managers, recognised trade unions, HR compliance and services stakeholders, the desired candidate will develop and leverage ER best practices and processes to support our culture of being committed to the people we support and their right to lead full and valued lives as equal citizens.
The post holder will:
1. Link with the regional HR Teams and provide support and expertise in the area of employee relations, project initiatives at national level.
2. Be flexible in their approach to service delivery and contribute positively towards the ongoing development of effective teamwork.
3. Be familiar and work within any other statutory regulations and guidelines which place obligations on the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland.
4. Monitor these statutory regulations and guidelines which change from time to time as new ones are introduced, particularly SI No. 367 of 2013, “Health Act 2007 (Care and Support of residents in Designated Centres for persons (Children and Adults with disabilities) Regulation 2013” and the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards of July 2013.
Qualifications And Experience
1. Strong Employee Relations (ER) experience gained through increasingly responsible positions within Human Resources in a recognised unionised environment with a demonstrated passion for employee relations and people management is an essential requirement of the role.
2. Strong employment law background with qualification a distinct advantage.
3. Ability to create order from ambiguity & willingness to roll up sleeves to directly solve problems, operate with a sense of urgency, prioritise work, and demonstrate a conscientious, attention to detail and “can do” attitude.
4. Strong people leadership skills with a creative collaborative mindset with the ability to grasp issues quickly and work on the right things at the right time.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with excellent written & spoken English.
6. A relevant level 8 degree or equivalent qualification is preferred or professional membership of CIPD (MCIPD / FCIPD) is highly desirable.
7. Proven track record leading complex projects and organisational change, driving operational excellence and improved employee experience.
8. Demonstrated ability to drive results through individual efforts and influencing others, without authority over them, including HR and Business Leaders and a demonstrated ability to drive projects through to execution.
9. Excellent customer service and relationship management skills and negotiation skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy and tact.
10. Proficient in Microsoft tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HR information systems.
11. Recognise the equal rights of people with an intellectual disability in society and uphold and respect those rights.
HOURS OF WORK:
70 hours per fortnight based on a 5 day Monday to Friday basis. Contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. over 7 days as future service needs require. Flexibility may be required in order to meet Service demands.
ANNUAL LEAVE:
30 days per annum
REMUNERATION:
Department of Health Grade VII (Clerical) Salary Scale (01/10/2024) - €58,254 x 8 increments - €70,654 (Max) per annum.
LSI 1 €73,186 per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.
LSI 2 €75,728 per annum is payable after a further 3 years.
TRAVEL:
The person appointed must provide his/her own car and must furnish an indemnity from Insurers in favour of the employer. Travelling expenses at the appropriate rate will be paid in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge of duty and in accordance with our Travel Policy. The travel base for this purpose will be Kilcornan House, Clarinbridge, Co. Galway. This may be subject to change in the future.
