As a Senior (Bat) Ecologist at RSK Ireland you can expect to get involved with the delivery of elements of field surveys, assessment, tender and report writing and project management, on various Ireland wide and local projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. A Senior (Bat) Ecologist is responsible for managing and overseeing medium/large projects and tenders from inception to finalisation.
2. Write reports, analyse data, coordinate bat and other ecological surveys and mitigation, write bat survey reports
3. Manage and conduct bat surveys (PRAs of buildings, structures and trees, emergence/re-entry surveys, activity transects, static detectors) and bat mitigation (licence applications, supervision, monitoring).
4. Manage project finance, resource allocation, manage staff and subconsultants, and liaise with clients and authorities, risk and quality assurance, ensuring timely delivery and effective communication, and seeking and responding to client feedback.
5. Good working knowledge and experience of ecology, legislation, and survey techniques, including protected species surveys and mitigation.
6. Strong ability to scope bat survey requirements and design, co-ordinating and undertaking fieldwork for ecological impact assessments and protected species surveys.
7. Produce accurate data analysis technical bat reports to a professional standard.
8. Input into writing of high-quality technical reports i.e. Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Biodiversity Chapters, Ecological Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Management Plans.
9. Technical review of ecological reports prepared by colleagues.
10. Assisting with business development by assisting with quotation preparation and ensuring good client relationships.
11. Working alone and with our existing ecologists in the wider region to ensure quality projects are delivered on time to our clients.
12. Talking to our clients and providing solid technical advice.
13. Completing fieldwork, including out-of-hours surveys, travelling and working away from home as required.
14. Ensuring good communication and collaboration within ecology team, including; liaising with senior ecologists, and mentoring of junior team members.
15. Project specific desk-top research and keeping self and other team members up-to-date with relevant industry guidelines and emerging science.
Person Specification:
16. The successful applicant will lead on licensed bat mitigation, manage projects and lead surveys. They will have extensive bat survey and mitigation experience.
17. A degree in relevant discipline or vocation qualification.
18. 5 years plus specific relevant experience or proven, previous experience in a similar role
19. A full UK/Irish driving licence with access to your own vehicle.
20. Abide by CIEEM’s Code of Professional Conduct.
21. Membership of CIEEM – level commensurate with experience.
22. Desire and ability to work well within a team, and mentor junior colleagues.
23. A pro-active attitude to managing your own time
24. Bat survey experience in range of survey types and written reports.
25. Familiar with sound analysis equipment and night vision aids, analysis programs and analyses and interpretation of sound data and reporting.
26. Experience of personal species-specific licences (i.e. bats, newts and/or badger).
27. Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce accurate technical reports (e.g. species-specific survey reports, EcIAs, Biodiversity Chapters, HRAs, protected species licenses etc.) - Desirable
28. Experience of developing ecological/biodiversity enhancement plans- Desirable
