Description
To oversee the operations of the dietary and environmental services for two of our locations, Belinda’s Place and Sutton Youth Services plus any additional YHSS locations as required. The effective management of financial resources and the development of a strong dietary and environmental service team that will deliver optimal care and service, based on legislative requirements while assuring adherence to the policies and procedures set out by The Salvation Army.
Key Responsibilities
Administration
1. Supports, interprets, and incorporates The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision, and Values into all aspects of nutrition/environmental.
2. Support the implementation of our dietary services and delivery program through menu planning, food production, dining, and snack.
3. Ensure all dietary residential needs are met.
4. Support our Custodians and laundry services program while ensuring compliance with current policies and procedures.
5. Review feedback from residents on service and production to improve services.
6. Ensure that all staff function within their scope of practice and demonstrate the knowledge and skill required.
7. Establish systems to ensure all standards and regulations for dietary and environmental services are implemented and adhered to on an ongoing basis.
8. Collect data for any statistical reporting requirements.
9. Contribute to committees.
Human Resources
1. Participate in the recruitment and performance management process in accordance with YHSS and Core Standards for all employees in the dietary and environmental services.
2. Ensure staff practices are in compliance with Policies, Procedures, Operating Principles, and all Core Standards.
3. Assist with the onboarding of new staff and overseeing recertification.
4. Schedule staff ensuring coverage for sick and vacation days; be on call if needed.
5. Work shifts if relief and/or full-time staff are not available.
6. Process/approve biweekly timesheets in Workday.
7. Submit/approve biweekly hours to payroll.
8. Provide direction and corrective intervention with employees in performance ensuring adherence to organizational and departmental policies, procedures, work routines, and safety practices.
Financial and Materials Management
1. Manage inventory for dietary and environmental services.
2. Ensure effective and efficient procurement and supply control procedures within the dietary and environmental services team.
3. Work with the Business Manager on costs and budgeting.
Quality Management
1. Provide leadership and direction to implement all aspects of the Quality Assurance and Risk management program as it pertains to the dietary and environmental services team.
2. Establish processes and accountability for completion of monthly audits, analysis of results, and development of improvement plans as required to address quality care and service.
3. Make recommendations for corrective action to reach the mean for clinical standards.
4. Assist in managing outbreak procedures including IPAC assessments and actions plans from Business.
Food Donors
1. Build relationships with community donors.
2. Develop a donor plan of action.
3. Engage and arrange food donations.
4. Manage food donation processes.
Occupational Health and Safety
1. Observe work patterns and ensure safe working practices are always adhered to.
2. Ensure that all dietary and environmental staff are properly trained and aware of emergency fire and disaster procedures.
3. Ensure dietary and Custodians staff perform pre-startup inspections on all equipment requiring the same.
4. Conduct safety audits.
Qualifications And Education Requirements
Education and Experience Qualifications
1. Preference will be given to individuals working in a similar current role for dietary and Custodians services.
2. Current food handlers’ certificate.
3. Culinary certificate/diploma or equivalent restaurant, institutional cooking experience.
Experience And Knowledge Requirements
1. Minimum of two years’ experience supervising staff.
2. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.
3. Knowledge of working with community-based not-for-profits.
Skills And Capabilities
1. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Office 365.
2. Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
3. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness.
4. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
5. Valid Driver’s License.
6. Good interpersonal/time management skills.
7. A valid first aid and CPR certificate.
8. Up to date WMHIS.
9. A satisfactory VSS (Vulnerable Sector Screening) for The Salvation Army.
10. Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
