Role Summary
The Civil, Structural & Architectural (CSA) Design Manager - Substations/Grid Connections will lead designs for substations and grid connections that power our AWS DCs in Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects globally.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage civil, structural, and architectural design scope for HV/MV substation and grid connection projects.
* Create, review, and release RFPs for external design consultants and contractors.
* Work with high voltage electrical engineers to produce substation site layouts during data centre master planning design.
* Manage external CSA design consultants through the design and construction administration phases of projects.
* Review civil engineering designs, evaluate geotechnical reports, and ensure timely delivery within budget and quality level.
* Prepare and execute building permit strategies for HV/MV substations and associated grid connections.
* Liaise with authorities having jurisdiction and energy utilities regarding building permitting and design approvals.
* Coordinate with internal and external MEP engineers, quantity surveyors, construction managers, and technical programme managers.
* Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
* Develop and maintain a CSA basis of design, prototype design, and template specifications for HV/MV substations and grid connection projects.
* Travel for site assessments, design, AHJ, and construction meetings.

Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited school.
* 5+ years experience in design of industrial projects.
* Experience in creating, reviewing, and approving civil engineering design requests.
* Solid working proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite.
* Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standards including Eurocodes.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineering license.
* Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* Project Management Certificate.
* Experience leading multidisciplinary designs.
* Solid working proficiency in Civil 3D, Revit, and Bluebeam.
* 3+ years experience in the Power/Utility sector or equivalent experience.
* Direct experience dealing with AHJs and Energy Utilities.
