Position Description At ESB, data sits in the centre of our business, providing insights to support better business decisions. We are looking for Data Engineers to join our growing data engineering team. The data function within ESB operates in a Hub and Spoke model, with the Hub acting as a Centre of Excellence, supporting the individual Spokes which sit directly within fivebusiness units across ESB. The Data Engineering team is an integral part of the Analytics Hub. This team has been set up to reinvent how ESB uses its data. It will be involved in the design, build, integration, and subsequent productionising of data pipelines from various sources across all business units to facilitate the optimal use of this data by appropriate analytics consumers such as Data Scientists, Data Analysts etc. Key Responsibilities Ensuring the successful delivery of all assigned Data Engineering work on projects across all ESB business units and their successful deployment to production, including cases developed by our Data Science & Analytics team. Responsible for our data infrastructure platforms including SSIS, Azure Synapse and Cloudera. Responsible for building robust and scalable data models as well has helping to shape the vision and architecture of ESBs data infrastructure into the future. Responsible for tracking the performance of our resources and growing our capability in line with business requirements. The development of Extract Transform and Load routines, modelling, queries, reports, and analysis. Experience and Qualifications Essential Minimum of 5+years' working experience in data engineering including hands-on development of data pipelines across multiple technologies. ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load)development primarily using Azure Synapse with some legacy Microsoft SSIS &Hadoop. Demonstrated strength in data modelling and data warehousing (Kimball /Inmon). Experience building data products incrementally, and integrating and managing data sets from multiple sources including API (Application Programming Interface)integrations. Problem solving and query performance tuning skills. Excellent communication and reporting skills, and ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders when troubleshooting. Demonstratable motivation to learn new development skills. Ideas-driven and creative in finding solutions/designing improved methods, systems, and processes. Competent in writing Transact SQL (Structured Query Language) scripts with the ability to work on own initiatives. A third level qualification or relevant work experience is required. Desirable Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for the best practices on the data engineering space. Industry experience as a Data Engineer or related specialty with a record of accomplishment of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large data sets. Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets. Experience leading large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects. Knowledge of Azure services, e.g. Azure Blob storage, Azure Data Lake storage, Logic Apps/ Power Automate, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL Pool (Dedicated / Serverless), Azure Spark Pool. Familiarity of big data tools, e.g. HDFS, HIVE, Sqoop, Oozie, Spark, Ranger. Familiarity with SAP ERP, SAP BW, SAP Data Services. Understanding of shell scripting and/or exposure to linux systems. Strong Stakeholder management with experience working on multiple parallelprojects. Scrum experience and working in Agile methodology/sprints. Location This position will be based in ESB Head Office, F27, Dublin.
