Currently seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Automation / Operational Technology Engineer to design, program, and maintain Operational Technology and Automated control systems for our customers predominantly in the utilities sector.
The successful candidate will work on the design, development, testing, installation, and support of automation and OT Equipment across a range of sectors.
The candidate should possess excellent customer facing skills, and work well under pressure, demonstrating a professional manner, with an ability to identify and focus on customer needs, during the design, deployment and ongoing support of company solutions.
Overview of Role:
You will play a pivotal role in designing, programming, and deploying industrial automation solutions for a diverse range of clients across manufacturing, processing, utilities, and other industrial sectors. This role blends technical expertise with hands-on implementation, requiring a strong understanding of control systems, client requirements, and project execution.
You'll work on full project lifecycles - from requirements gathering and control system design to PLC/HMI/SCADA programming, testing, commissioning, and post-installation support. Your work will be key in delivering customized, reliable, and efficient automation solutions that integrate seamlessly with clients' existing systems and operational needs.
This is a dynamic, varied position that combines office-based design and programming with on-site commissioning and client interaction. It's ideal for engineers who enjoy solving real-world problems, working across different industries, and continuously learning new technologies.
Responsibilities:
1. Troubleshoot hardware/software faults on control systems and industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
2. Design, implement, and support OT systems including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, HMIs, and industrial Automation networks.
3. Develop and implement control logic for manufacturing and automation systems.
4. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in PLC-controlled equipment and instrumentation.
5. Create and maintain electrical and control schematics, documentation, and user manuals.
6. Perform system testing, FAT/SAT, and provide on-site support during installation and startup.
7. Optimize existing systems for better performance, safety, and maintainability.
8. Ensure compliance with relevant safety and industry standards (e.g., IEC, ISO, NFPA).
Experience:
1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
2. 5+ years of experience in PLC programming and industrial automation.
3. Proficiency with one or more PLC platforms: e.g. Schneider EcoStruxureMachine Expert Siemens (TIA Portal, S7), Allen-Bradley (RSLogix, Studio 5000), Mitsubishi, etc.
4. Experience with HMI/SCADA software such as WinCC, FactoryTalk View, Ignition, or similar.
5. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
6. Willingness to travel for site support and commissioning.
7. Strong knowledge and skilled in the deployment of protocol conversion equipment.
8. Experience in comms / networking infrastructure solutions.
