Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist COPD Outreach
Temporary Contract. Full Time Hours.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Be responsible for comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation and review of treatment / intervention programmes in line with best practice for respiratory patients, managing workload in accordance with the needs of the role.
* Be responsible for goal setting in partnership with client with respiratory conditions, their family and other team members using their specialist clinical skills and knowledge.
* Be a leader of the clinical Physiotherapy care of respiratory patients in the hospital.
* Make autonomous decisions with/on behalf of the patient, to augment and support their health potential and to promote continuity of care.
* Collaborate with MDT in discharge planning or transfer of care between wards and services as appropriate.
* Provide advice and support to physiotherapy and multidisciplinary colleagues on clinical practice issues.
* Maintain clinical records in accordance with local, hospital and professional guidelines, and be involved in documentation audits, providing data on a regular basis as required by the HSE, MUH, NRH for CARF (Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) requirements.
* Communicate verbally and/or in writing results of assessments, treatment / intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
* Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences, ward rounds etc. as required and at varied locations.
* Participate in multi-professional treatment sessions.
* Communicate with the patients GP and relevant community staff in relation to the patient's condition when required.
* Liaise with colleagues in the community to facilitate the integration of care between primary and secondary care.
* Liaise with the Palliative care team for end-of-life issues where appropriate.
* Assess the effectiveness of patient's medication in consultation with the consultant or GP.
* Assess patients for suitability for inclusion on a Pulmonary rehabilitation programme and refer as appropriate.
* Arrange and carry out duties in a timely manner within settings appropriate to service users' needs (including both in hospital and in patients' homes) and in line with local policy / guidelines.
* Maintain departmental and hospital standards of practice and participate in quality assurance and clinical audit as appropriate, mindful of CARF requirements and local policies.
* Communicate with other clinical specialists nationally and internationally working in the Emergency Departments to further develop clinical excellence and research.
* Act as resource within the MUH in his/her specialist clinical area to other members of the multidisciplinary team and provide specialist advice, teaching and training to other members of the MDT.
* Serve on and advise such committees that may be set up relevant to this area of clinical specialty.
* Record and collate statistics to reflect work undertaken and provide data as required by the Physiotherapy Manager.
* Participate in on-call and weekend working arrangements at MUH and maintain competency in accordance with departmental policy.
Eligibility Criteria - Qualifications and/or Experience
Essential - Candidates must, on the latest date for receiving completed applications:
* (a) Possess the Bachelor in Physiotherapy (Hons.) or B.Sc. Physiotherapy (Hons) degree from the National University of Ireland or University of Dublin or
* (b) Possess the Diploma in Physiotherapy of the University of Dublin or the National University of Ireland or
* (c) Possess a qualification in Physiotherapy at least equivalent to (a) or (b) above, or
* (d) Be registered or be eligible for registration as a Physiotherapist by the Physiotherapist Registration Board at CORU, and
* (e) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Physiotherapist Register maintained by the Physiotherapist Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued. On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Physiotherapist register maintained by the Physiotherapist Registration Board at CORU. Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC), and
* (f) Have had at least five years satisfactory post qualification experience some of which must be in Respiratory Physiotherapy, particularly the management of chronic lung disease.
* (g) Have CPD relevant to the area, and
* (h) Full clean driving license and indemnified insurance.
Availability for on call and weekend rota as required in line with the terms and conditions.
* Membership of Clinical Interest Group(s).
* Post graduate education in Respiratory Physiotherapy or specific experience working with this client group in an outreach setting.
