At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.
Scientist – API Network TSMS Small Molecule Lab Support
The Scientist – API Network TSMS Small Molecule Lab Support provides the technical support required to achieve the reliable and compliant manufacture of Small Molecule portfolio which includes raw materials, intermediates and drug substances. The Senior Scientist executes technical projects (experimental, modeling and/or production data analysis) to improve and optimize process control, yield, purity, and/or productivity. In addition, the Senior Scientist should be capable and technically independent in setting up and executing a variety of experiments at the laboratory scale and conduct research on manufactured product for process improvements and troubleshooting in the TSMS laboratory.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
* Understand the purpose and science of small molecule processes; have an in-depth knowledge of the science (including analytical) behind the molecule and the process.
* Understand the process control strategy for small molecule products.
* Establish and/or qualify scale-down models of manufacturing processes (lab based).
* Through training and familiarisation of lab models gain ability to independently set up and execute various chemical reactions, utilising safe laboratory practice and adherence to CHP requirements. Ensure that experiments are well designed with clear objectives.
* Develop ability to analyze data and ensure appropriate documentation, with responsibility for authoring technical reports and documents.
* Maintain laboratory equipment and implement new laboratory equipment, technologies and methodology where lab based.
* Interpret complex technical challenges and partner with TSMS counterparts in other buildings/areas to design and/or execute experiments that enhance understanding of the manufacturing processes, qualify new raw materials, aid manufacturing investigations, and increase process robustness and productivity while maintaining product quality.
* Engage where necessary with the development organisation (SMDD) to ensure understanding of process control strategy.
* Work as part of cross-functional teams, and establish partnerships with applicable functions, operations and TSMS Lab to understand interface between the science/engineering with the operations on the floor and bring deep technical expertise to the team.
* Identify process improvements and participate in implementation of Lean manufacturing initiatives.
* Leverage internal and external expertise to improve processes.
* Understand and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory expectations.
Basic Requirements:
* MSc in Chemistry with demonstrated research experience.
Additional Preferences:
* Demonstrated knowledge in organic chemistry.
* Familiarity with cGMP manufacturing environment and terminology.
* Excellent analytical, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
* Ability to prioritize activities.
* Good judgment and flexibility.
Education Requirements:
* PhD or equivalent in scientific disciplines of Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, Bioanalytical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry.
