Theatre Operative (Panel)
Temporary and Permanent, Full Time and Part Time Opportunities
The Theatre Operative will report to the Clinical Nurse Manager 3, CNM2 or designated officer and is accountable to the ADON Nursing Support Services.
Responsibilities:
* Determine specific equipment needed for all procedures as per individual consultant protocol.
* Prepare the Theatre environment prior to the start of a list, undertaking the appropriate checks to ensure the equipment is ready for use.
* Demonstrates the ability to understand and comply with cleaning protocols for infection prevention and control and apply all PPGs correctly.
* Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including properly storing cleaning equipment and supplies.
* Ensure all equipment necessary for daily lists are clean and in good working order, reporting defects to the Clinical Nurse Manager/NIC.
* Safely position equipment, e.g. lights, operating tables, trolleys etc. and assist with safe storage of equipment.
* Assist Nursing staff with lifting and positioning patients for operative procedures and in the prevention and care of pressure areas in the Theatre - heels, buttocks, upper limbs - gentle handling with delicate skin. Undertake manual handling of patients, equipment and supplies consistent with Workplace Health & Safety Legislation.
* Maintain integrity of the sterile field.
* Transport patients within the Theatre area to Recovery Room on discharge from Theatre.
* Deliver samples to and from laboratory or elsewhere as directed by the CNM/NIC in charge.
* Assist in the preparation of Theatre before and after Theatre lists and in between cases.
* Maintain stock levels of consumables necessary for the efficient running of Theatre ensuring stock is rotated per hospital policy and items are in date.
* Wash/disinfect operating table promptly on discharge of patient from Theatre in preparation for next patient. Assist the nursing staff in collecting operating table equipment, patient positioners, arm boards, hand table, tourniquet etc, and trolleys for procedure.
* Clean and maintain the Theatre environment and equipment after each case according to established infection control procedures.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must, on the latest date for receipt of applicants, hold:
* Candidates must hold a relevant health skills QQI (formerly FETAC) level 5 qualification, OR an equivalent relevant health care qualification or a comparable healthcare qualification as outlined in the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) NARIC Ireland framework.
* Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role.
* Theatre experience desirable.
