Cost Accountant with FP&A I am currently working with a valued and trusted client of our to assist in finding a skilled Cost Accountant with FP&A to join their finance team. This role is essential in ensuring accurate cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and delivering financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, finance colleagues, and senior management to drive financial efficiency across all construction projects. Key Responsibilities: Cost Accounting & Project Financial Control Monitor and track project costs, ensuring alignment with budgets and financial plans. Prepare job costing reports and variance analysis to assess project performance. Ensure accurate allocation of labour, materials, and overhead costs to specific projects. Review subcontractor and supplier costs, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements. Assist in cost control initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Develop and maintain financial models using Excel and Advanced Business Management (ABM) software for budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis, with potential migration to another accounting system. Analyse financial performance, identifying trends and key drivers of variances against budgets and forecasts. Provide insights to improve project profitability and cost efficiency. Support scenario planning and financial impact assessments for new projects and business decisions. Conduct historical trend analysis and market assessments to enhance cost estimation and financial planning. Reporting & Compliance Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders. Support external audits and compliance reporting, ensuring accurate documentation of project costs. Maintain strong internal controls to uphold financial integrity. Collaboration & Systems Work closely with project managers, procurement, and operations teams to track costs and financial performance. Assist in developing and improving financial systems to support project and business growth. Key Qualifications & Experience Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, CIMA, or ACCA qualification is an advantage). 3-7 years of experience in cost accounting, FP&A, or financial analysis, ideally within the construction sector. Strong understanding of job costing, WIP (Work in Progress) reporting, and project cost management. Proficiency in Excel (advanced functions, financial modelling). Experience with ERP and construction accounting systems (e.g., COINS, SAP, Sage, Procore). Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate financial data clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Preferred Skills Knowledge of construction contracts, margin analysis, and cost control strategies. Familiarity with Power BI or other financial reporting tools. Understanding of taxation and financial regulations in the construction industry.
