Our client is hiring a Medical Scientist to lead the Point of Care Testing (POCT) and Specimen Management Programme. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a reputable healthcare organisation and ensure best practices and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Specimen Management:
* Oversee the management of histology and pathology specimens across clinical areas.
* Ensure accurate preparation, labelling, and transportation of specimens in line with policy.
* Maintain traceability of samples distributed to various locations.
* Manage the storage of specimens within the specimen reception laboratory.
* Oversee the distribution and cross-referencing of test results to the appropriate departments via the IT system.
Point of Care Testing (POCT):
* Lead the POCT Programme, ensuring compliance with ISO 15189 and ISO 22870 standards.
* Provide training and maintain competency records for staff using POCT devices.
* Manage internal quality control processes and ensure the completion of external quality assurance tasks.
* Collaborate with the pharmacy team to monitor the storage and usage of reagents and controls.
* Ensure POCT reagents and controls are properly managed and remain in date.
Quality & Safety:
* Actively contribute to quality and safety initiatives to promote excellence in healthcare delivery.
* Support the development of performance indicators and participate in audits in accordance with hospital policy and standards.
* Foster a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety guidelines and reporting any potential risks.
Information Governance:
* Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient and staff information.
* Ensure secure handling, storage, and access to medical and personal records.
Qualifications & Experience Required
* BSc in Science, preferably Medical Science.
* Experience with Point of Care Testing (Cobas System).
* Expertise in specimen management, including labelling, handling, and transportation.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
* Proficiency in POCT device management and excellent IT skills.
* Knowledge of relevant standards, such as The Joint Commission standards.
* Strong communication, organisational skills, and attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
