We manage nine hospitals across six sites, offering a wide range of services from local general care to specialized regional and national services.Main Duties of the JobThe appointee will work an average of 10 programmed activities per week, with the specific job plan determined upon starting the post. Duties include:Potential role as an educational supervisor for 1 or 2 trainees, involvement in induction, postgraduate education, undergraduate education, governance activities, audit, and research.Participation in a recently agreed-upon job planning framework with the Local Negotiating Committee (LNC).One in six resident evenings until 11 PM (Monday to Friday) as the resident consultant.During the working week, one consultant covers general pediatrics from 9 AM to 5 PM, conducting daily ward rounds, reviewing admitted patients, attending meetings, supervising trainees, and being available for pediatric emergencies. After 5 PM, the on-call consultant takes over.Job ResponsibilitiesHospital is a 16-bed intensive care unit serving the Wessex Region for general pediatric services.Consultants collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to manage patients effectively.Time will be allocated to cover the regional retrieval service.The Consultant's responsibilities include collaborating with other pediatric units to establish protocols and transfer criteria, as well as enhancing training programs and clinical responsibilities for junior medical staff rotating through the unit.The ideal candidate should possess expertise in pediatric cardiac intensive care, renal replacement therapies, and advanced ventilatory support techniques, including the use of inhaled nitric oxide, high-frequency oscillation, and extracorporeal life support.Additionally, significant experience in managing severe traumatic head injuries, complex patients with multiple organ failure, and transport medicine is essential for this role.Person SpecificationQualifications and Training - EssentialMBChB or equivalentPostgraduate qualification - MRCPCH or equivalentCompletion of general professional training (paediatric medicine)Completion of higher specialist training in paediatric medicine.
