Basic Function & Purpose of the Role
About the RoleOur ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimisation and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action.You will feed into and manage the delivery of the BI Roadmap Data Science initiatives.You will oversee planning and analysis of product delivery trials.You will extend the capabilities and scope of data used to external sources in the BI team. You will mine and analyse data from company databases to drive optimisation and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies.You will assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.You will be responsible for developing custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets and implement best practices as they relate to data science, data quality and governance strategies. You will coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes. You will research data science trends and technological innovations to make appropriate development recommendations. You'll identify areas for improvements for reliability, adaptability, and efficiencies.You will coach other members of BI team on statistical and analytical best practices. About YouYou have a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related discipline. You have an advanced Certificate/Qualification in Data Science / Advanced Analytics.You have at least 5 years' experience manipulating data sets and building statistical models.You have extensive experience with Machine Learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks. You can use statistical computer languages (R, Python, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.You have extensive experience using a variety of data mining and data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building and implementing data models, using and creating algorithms and creating/running simulations.You have exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities as well as strong analytical skills that ensure projects are delivered to an accurate and high-quality standard. You have experience with data quality and data profiling.You have experience of software development lifecycle.You are an effective team player - you have a positive attitude, and are flexible and hard working.You're statistically trained and adept as explaining technically complex topics to non-technical audiences.About the TeamYou will be part of a Business Intelligence team of 12 people, reporting to the Head of Analytics within the wider Premier Lotteries Ireland (PLI) Technology department. The role involves collaborating cross functionally with Finance, Product Development, Commercial, Draw Operations and Responsible Play teams, leading projects involving player behaviour modelling, statistical modelling, strategic initiative support, fraud detection and setup and analysis of A/B testing of new innovations across the PLI Retail Network. This often involves presenting directly to PLI Senior Leadership, advising colleagues throughout PLI on statistical matters and reporting best practices, and ultimately providing actionable, reliable and efficient support for better business outcomes.
