The Role
Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.
We are seeking a Post Doctoral Researcher (Level 2) to work on an Irish Research Council funded project (HoStIr: Holocene Storminess in Ireland). The response of atmospheric circulation to warming is one of the least certain aspects of climate science, due in part to a spread between model simulations of the storm track and uncertainty about the key drivers of change. The HoStIr project seeks to test new proxies for past sea spray deposition to coastal peatlands and then use these to develop multi-millennial records of past storminess for western Ireland. The advertised postdoctoral researcher will lead the data-model comparison of storminess in Ireland during the mid-Holocene and last millennium, using PMIP4-CMIP6 simulations.
Realisation of the project aims will allow evaluation of how well models capture changes in storminess and transform our understanding of how and why storminess is altered during warm intervals. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Lisa Orme (P.I.) who is leading the project. The post will run for 16 months.
Salary: Senior Post Doctoral Researcher (2024): €52,716 p.a (1 Point with increment)
Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
