We have a new opening for a Senior Controls Engineer with a Medical Device company based in Athlone.
This position will be a hybrid role, with a requirement to be onsite 1-2 days per week.
As a Senior Controls Engineering Specialist, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the New Product side and assisting with New Products & Technologies into Business. This is a new position within the team; you will be working closely with the Corporate Teams designing equipment, guiding people on site, assisting in training, identifying skill gaps, and upskilling the current team as well as identifying necessary technologies.
The candidate will be at a Principal Engineer Level with strong hands-on experience in PLCs and SCADA and will be able to install SCADA systems and understand SCADA and MES interfaces.
The position will involve the following:
* Leading the development and commissioning of automation and control systems.
* Designing, specifying, programming, simulating, testing, and providing start-up assistance for automation and control systems.
* Focusing on levels 1 to 3 of the ISA pyramid, working closely with project teams and OEMs to deliver optimum solutions for the business.
* Managing the specification, development, installation, and validation of automation projects with direct responsibility for control systems.
* Leading discussions with project teams, providing technical support, and making informed decisions on hardware and architecture selection.
* Collaborating with OEM teams to design, develop, and test PLC code in accordance with site coding standards.
* Fine-tuning PLC code during the testing and development phase of projects, conducting system testing and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
* Developing and testing different aspects of automation systems including robotics, vision, PLC, HMI/SCADA, Motion Control, etc.
* Completing controls aspects of projects within the schedule and budget.
* Assessing existing technologies and processes, researching and implementing new control technologies.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Computer Sciences, or a relevant field.
* Over 10 years in an engineering role, preferably in Medical Devices, Life Sciences, or Pharma.
* Excellent knowledge of control system engineering in the automation and overall operation of complex electro-mechanical systems.
Skills:
* Expertise in Process Automation and Systems Integration.
* Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley control systems including Servo motion control and FactoryTalk View ME/SE.
* Familiarity with Siemens PLC platforms (e.g., TIA Portal, WinCC) is highly desirable.
* Proficiency in PLC programming languages such as ladder logic, function block diagram (FBD), and structured text (ST).
* Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (e.g., Ignition, FactoryTalk).
* Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and techniques for securing SCADA systems.
