Position: Health, Safety & Environmental Officer

Shift: Night shift (Monday - Thursday, 11 pm - 7 am and Friday 9 pm - 4 am)
We're seeking a proactive HSE Officer for nightshift operations who is committed to driving safety excellence independently. This role demands a self-starter with a strong initiative to ensure robust health, safety, and environmental standards throughout our operations.

The HSE Officer shall support the HSE Manager in day-to-day administration and execution of HSE plans, programs and the building of behaviours. They shall be responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of activities to continually improve HSE matters for Tayto Snacks. Liaising with the HSE management, line teams, colleagues and contractors they shall help to drive a zero-loss culture across the business using lean manufacturing tools, building capabilities & behaviours amongst colleagues, world class management systems and appropriate expenditure.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work within a continual improvement workplace delivering servant-leadership principles via line teams and functional pillars.
· Conducting and reviewing risk assessments, including Task Risk Assessments, Manual Handling Risk Assessments, Hazardous Substances, Environmental Aspects Assessments & Quick Risk Assessments. Evolving into working very closely with and managers to support risk assessment ownership at line level.
· Document and monitor all incident and preventative actions sitewide in a timely manner, including regular updating of those actions and assessment of their effectiveness.
· Supporting in incident investigation in a timely manner using reenactments, 5-why techniques and root cause analysis. Supporting implementation of immediate countermeasures and permanent corrective actions.
· Support the delivery of the H&S training program across the site, including the use of Job Safety Procedures, provision of Manual Handing training and induction programs.
· Support the review of all onsite HSE policies and procedures.
· Conduct on-site Health, Safety and Environmental communication, awareness and engagement programmes utilising regular meetings and toolbox talks.
· Facilitate operational and technical improvements in conjunction with project, maintenance and production teams.
· Assist the promotion of a culture of safety and corporate social responsibility.
· Support the HSE Manager in the monitoring of emergency and pollution prevention controls, practices and equipment.
· Manage First Aid provisions on site training and provisions on site.
· Support the HSE Manager in the monitoring of good waste management practices onsite.
· Play an active role in the site and line-based waste, energy, water and CSR program
· In conjunction with the HSE Manager conduct internal audits and other routine inspections.
· Support and assess the implementation of contractor controls within the team.
· Support the legal compliance of the site.
· Data capture and maintenance, along and statistical records.
· Be part of the site HSE Pillar Team.
KEY SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES / CORE COMPETENCIES:
· Able to plan and arrange work on own initiative, while reacting appropriately to demands as they arise a FMCG environment.
· An ability to manage and prioritise multiple activity streams.
· Clear, simple communication style – able to digest information swiftly and succinctly communicate with management.
· Ability to speak with people and build solid relationships that will support the 100% staff engagement.
· Influencing through others – ability to encourage positive behaviours, influence change and coach individuals or teams.
· Can work collaboratively across functions to hone a positive HSE culture (particularly production, maintenance, HR, Occupational Health).
· A keen eye for detail, with a strong desire to continually improve.
· The ability to use visual systems to promote and communicate HSE matters effectively.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Minimum 3 years industrial experience.
· Be willing to work towards a HSE Qualification e.g., NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
· FMCG, packaging or process background.
· IWS or similar structured frameworks commonly used in manufacturing to achieve high performance through continuous improvement and teamwork.
· Experienced in machinery and process risk assessments
· A track record in supporting teams in accident prevention
· Exposure to multiple key HSE activities (e.g. Emergency Preparedness, Internal Auditing, Operational Controls (procedures and policies), Training)
· Experience of Behavioural Safety processes
DESIRABLE:
· H&S and Environmental qualification, e.g., NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
· ISO14001/ISO45001 exposure.
· Incident investigation experience.
· Qualified Manual Handling instructor.
· Continuous improvement – previous experience in TPM/Lean/iL6S would be advantageous.
· Experience in contractor control
· Experience of waste and pollution management practices
