Offer Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral researcher to work within a project directed by Professor Noel Caplice at CRVB, UCC. The aim of the project is to determine if a specific bacteria can alter the biochemical, systemic, and cardiovascular features of metabolic syndrome in a novel clinical scale experimental model. This project will involve measurement of molecular, biochemical, and physiological parameters in a well-established model of metabolic syndrome. Additional work will concentrate on identifying the active compound in the Probiotic under study. Candidates should have a PhD with relevant molecular or biochemical experience. Expertise in cell culture, western analysis, PCR, and chemical analysis of constituent components is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to have strong experimental skills as well as a significant track record of research accomplishments.
UCC is an accredited research organisation and can form hosting agreements with third country nationals (and non-EEA nationals) for the purpose of conducting research in the University.
Project Title: Role of fibre and gut microbiome in alteration of biochemical and cardiovascular features of metabolic syndrome
The primary focus of the Postdoctoral Researcher will be research; however, a particular emphasis during this stage should include:
* Conducting a specified programme of research under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator/Project Leader.
* Engaging in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by the Principal Investigator, School or College to develop research skills and competencies.
* Gaining experience in grant writing.
* Engaging in the dissemination of the results of the research as directed by, with the support of, and under the supervision of a Principal Investigator.
* Becoming familiar with the publication process.
* Acquiring generic and transferable skills (including project management, business skills, and postgraduate mentoring/supervision).
* Engaging in the wider research and scholarly activities of the research group, School, or College.
* Interacting closely with postgraduate research students studying for a Masters or a PhD and possibly supporting these students in their day-to-day research in conjunction with an academic supervisor.
* Carrying out administrative work to support the programme of research.
* Carrying out additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.
* Contributing to costing research grant proposals and assisting in the financial management of a research project.
