The Role
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Officer – Waste Enforcement to join our team. This role involves conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with waste legislation. Based at our client’s office, the role may require travel to other locations across the country.
This position is ideal for someone with experience in process-driven activities, a strong focus on compliance, and excellent client relationship management skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Investigate and report on illegal waste activities.
* Ensure compliance with waste legislation, including the Waste Management Act 1996 and Regulation (EC) 1013 of 2007 on international waste shipment.
* Conduct inspections and audits of waste producers, facilities, collection permit holders, and waste in transit.
* Collect and analyse data and intelligence regarding illegal waste activities.
* Accurately document audits, complaint investigations, and update data management systems.
* Perform both overt and covert surveillance when required.
* Prepare written reports on non-compliance and suspected legal breaches.
* Provide evidence in court cases related to investigations.
* Liaise with enforcement agencies such as Local Authorities, the Environmental Protection Agency, An Garda Síochána, and Customs & Revenue.
* Perform additional duties as required.
What We’re Looking For
* Degree in Environmental Sciences (or similar) – NVQ Level 8 or higher or at least 10 years of experience in enforcement, compliance, and court proceedings.
* Full clean Category B driving licence.
* Fluent in written and spoken English.
* Strong oral and written communication.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Strong analytical and investigative skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
