MSK and Sports Chartered Physiotherapist
TITLE: Head of Medical/Physiotherapy.
DEPARTMENT: Medical/Physiotherapy.
REPORTS TO: Chairman of Rugby/Club Secretary.
REPORTEES: Head of Performance/Strength and Conditioning Staff, Physiotherapist Contractors as required.
PURPOSE
To provide Medical and Physiotherapy services to the First Team, Second Team, Women’s and Underage Squads of Shannon RFC.
To work with the performance and coaching staff to develop a leading performance & medical service to support our players on and off the field.
KEY ROLE OBJECTIVES
• Working directly with the players, coaches and management, with responsibility for leading the Medical and Performance teams to ensure that the players receive the best possible medical care and athletic development.
• Diagnose, treat, and refer player injuries as appropriate and deliver best practice Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine services.
• To build robust and resilient players who can thrive at the highest level.
• To develop standards and systems to a level that captures and delivers accurate information on Injuries, Player Welfare, Return To Play and Performance Management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (KPIs)
• To ensure the delivery and development of all Medical and Musculoskeletal Care or Rehabilitation relating to players is operating to the highest level.
• To assist in the development of evidence-based protocols and standards of clinical practice for all areas of medical services throughout the Club.
• To communicate on the care and injury status of players to key stakeholders.
• To lead on the medical history profiling of all existing and new players.
• To lead and maintain secure, accurate and up-to-date Medical/Allergy/NOK records.
• To maintain accurate injury records and reporting in line with the IRFU/IRIS injury surveillance project.
• To manage the Club medical budget including: First Aid Consumables, Medical Room Equipment and Tape, ensuring adequate supply and accessibility.
• To liaise with Provincial and National medical teams on the medical management of respective Players.
• To assist in organising competent and suitably qualified Match Day Pitchside Cover to meet the demands of the fixtures schedule where practicable.
CHILD WELFARE, HEALTH AND SAFETY
• Work with the Club to establish full adherence with IRFU Medical, Health and Safety and Child Welfare best practices.
• Report all incidents, hazards and accidents as required.
• To alert and inform the Club where potential liabilities or legal obligations with regards to health and safety are identified.
HEAD OF MEDICAL/PHYSIOTHERAPY PROPOSED CRITERIA
• BSc or MSc Degree in Physiotherapy
• Member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapy (ISCP)
• Registered with CORU
• Professional Indemnity Insurance
• SAFERugby Level 2
• Taping and Strapping
• 2-3 + years experience in AIL Rugby or Equivalent
