ASSISTANT HEAD OF SECONDARY - PASTORAL
Maternity Leave Cover (September 2025, minimum 6 months, specified purpose basis)

JOB PURPOSE
To support the Head of Secondary in leading the pastoral development of the school, ensuring a positive, inclusive, and student-centred environment. The role involves overseeing student well-being, behaviour management, and pastoral care while maintaining high standards of engagement with students, parents, and staff.
This is a temporary maternity leave cover role, starting in September 2025 for a minimum of six months. The time allocation for this role is 80% leadership duties and 20% teaching.

PASTORAL LEADERSHIP
* Lead and oversee all aspects of pastoral care in the Secondary School, ensuring student well-being is at the heart of school policies and practices.
* Develop and implement effective strategies for student support, behavior management, attendance, and safeguarding.
* Foster a positive school culture where diversity, inclusivity, and student voice are valued and respected.
* Support and guide form tutors, pastoral staff, and student leaders in delivering high-quality pastoral care.
* Promote strong relationships between students, staff, and parents to create a collaborative approach to student development.
* Address student well-being concerns effectively, working with relevant staff, parents, and external agencies where necessary.
* Support student transitions between key educational stages, ensuring smooth integration and adjustment.

BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT & SAFEGUARDING
* Implement and uphold the school’s behaviour policies, ensuring consistent, fair, and positive discipline practices.
* Monitor and track student behaviour trends, providing proactive interventions and targeted support where necessary.
* Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), ensuring the highest standards of child protection and safeguarding are maintained.
* Provide training and guidance for staff on safeguarding policies, behaviour management, and student welfare.
* Collaborate with external agencies, parents, and school staff to ensure appropriate support for students in need.
Performance Measurement:
* Incident reports and resolution tracking
* Compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures
* Staff safeguarding training completion rates
* Effectiveness of intervention programs

STUDENT LEADERSHIP & PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
* Develop and oversee student leadership programs, empowering students to take active roles in school life.
* Promote student well-being initiatives, including mental health awareness, anti-bullying campaigns, and peer mentoring programs.
* Organize and lead assemblies, workshops, and pastoral events that contribute to character education and personal growth.
* Encourage student participation in co-curricular and service-learning activities, fostering a culture of responsibility and citizenship.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES (20%)

Required Skills/Abilities
PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications/Training:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching certification
* Experience in a pastoral leadership role within a secondary school setting
* Safeguarding and child protection training (or willingness to undertake training)
* Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree desirable)
Experience/Knowledge:
* Strong background in pastoral care, student well-being, and behavior management
* Experience working in an international school or multicultural setting (desirable)
* Familiarity with IB, British, or international curricula
* Understanding of mental health and safeguarding best practices
Skills:
* Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to build trust and strong relationships with students, staff, and parents
* Proficiency in data analysis to inform pastoral interventions
* Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and confidentiality
