Fire Prevention Officers and Fire Engineers
Fire prevention officers and fire engineers are sought by a state organisation in Ireland South. This role is focused on risk management advice for the protection of staff, public, and patients in medical facilities such as hospitals or medical centres.
The position is related to fire safety, ensuring that the organisation complies with legal and statutory obligations regarding fire health and safety prevention.
The main responsibilities include:
* Advising on equipment suitability to reduce risks within the organisation.
* Reporting on areas of fire and infrastructural risk where action is required.
* Investigating accidents and providing accident investigation reports.
* Being a member of the Integrated Quality and Risk committee.
* Monitoring and reporting on external contractor health and safety performance.
* Assisting in emergency plan setup and amendment.
* Providing input into fire safety expenditure planning.
* Conducting regular inspections of buildings, means of escape, and fire-fighting equipment.
* Reviewing and drawing up fire orders, including evacuation schemes.
* Inspecting places, premises, and equipment presenting a special risk of fire.
* Instructing staff in fire hazards avoidance, fire brigade summons, and means of escape.
* Arranging regular fire drills and monitoring their proper execution.
* Ensuring water supply sufficiency and pressure for firefighting purposes.
* Advising on interpretation of Fire Protection Standards and Building Regulations.
* Monitoring means of escape safety and adequacy.
* Keeping records of inspections, fires, evacuation drills, and fire-fighting equipment.
* Reporting on fire prevention services state and outbreaks of fire.
The ideal candidate should have a HETAC level 7 qualification in engineering, fire engineering, architecture, Health and Safety, or Building Services/Building Surveying. At least two years of experience in a comparable fire and safety role are also required. Excellent communication skills and good working relationships with team members and administrators are essential. The salary range is €55,000-€60,000 per annum with annual increments and mileage expenses.
