Job Description:
I am currently seeking applications for a Process Safety / Functional Safety Instrument Engineer on behalf of our client, a leading global player in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. This is a standout opportunity for an experienced professional where process safety intersects with engineering, operations, and maintenance in a highly regulated and innovative environment.
This role is vital to the safety, compliance, and operational reliability of the site. You’ll play a central role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) aligned with IEC-61508 / IEC-61511 standards, ensuring the safety of people, the environment, and assets.
Responsibilities:
1. Serve as the custodian of the Functional Safety Management System for the site.
2. Develop, revise, and implement SOPs, work instructions, and documentation for the FSMS.
3. Support Functional Safety Life Cycle activities including:
1. Participation in HAZOPs and LOPAs involving SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems).
2. Guiding best practices for SIS operation, maintenance, and testing.
3. Organising Functional Safety Assessments (FSAs) and external audits.
4. Delivering Functional Safety training programs.
4. Provide regular status updates to site management.
5. Support other engineering systems as needed where capacity and synergies exist.
Requirements:
1. Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering or a related technical discipline. Candidates with a trade background and relevant experience will also be considered.
2. 3+ years of experience in a related role (Engineering, Calibration, Instrumentation), preferably within a GMP/process manufacturing environment.
3. Strong knowledge of electrical/instrumentation systems and their interface with automation in a processing plant.
4. Exposure to engineering or maintenance programme management.
5. TUV Rheinland or equivalent certification in Functional Safety (or willingness to obtain with support).
6. Familiarity with IEC61508 / IEC61511 is a strong advantage.
7. Working knowledge of ATEX principles is desirable.
8. Strong analytical and documentation skills.
9. Excellent communication, decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
