The Role:
IMR are expanding their AR/VR team. We are seeking a programmer with Augmented and Virtual Reality development skills to join our team in the creation of immersive, interactive, and seamless experiences across a wide range of industrial applications. The AR/VR Software Engineer is a crucial resource required for new and existing projects at IMR.
The successful candidate will work as part of the AR/VR Team to develop, test and integrate AR/VR software for a wide range of IMR clients and projects and will play a key role in supporting the design and implementation of AR and VR applications that redefine user engagement and contribute to the evolution of the Metaverse landscape as an aid to learning.
The AR/VR team here at IMR are responsible for all aspects of the technology, with crossovers to other teams both internally and externally. We regularly visit client facilities, evaluate problem statements and identify suitable technologies.
We are looking for reliable, innovative and curious people to join our team and assist European manufacturing and learning institutions experience AR/VR technology in a whole new way.
We know AR/VR is a relatively new area, and skills and experience are limited. If you have the drive and determination to investigate, learn, test and improve, we want to speak to you – You don't need to know everything on day 1. However, you do need the ambition and desire to become an expert, and the autonomy and intuition to explore effectively.
Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the AR/VR Lead to design and develop proof-of-concept applications based on client and industry feedback.
2. Work with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy immersive applications.
3. Build and maintain interactive user interfaces using Angular or similar frameworks.
4. Integrate applications with AWS cloud services to ensure scalability, performance, and efficient data management.
5. Optimise 3D assets for AR/VR platforms, ensuring high quality and real-time performance.
6. Research and evaluate commercially available XR solutions (e.g., Vuforia, HoloLens, Meta devices, Leap motion, etc.).
7. Debug and resolve technical issues, ensuring smooth operation across devices and platforms.
8. Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in AR/VR, cloud computing, and 3D generation methods to bring innovative solutions to projects.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Games Development, or similar.
2. Strong C# or JavaScript programming skills, with experience in Angular or similar frameworks.
3. Familiarity with tools such as Unity, Unreal Engine, OpenXR, WebXR, BabylonJS, or PlayCanvas.
4. Experience with AWS services (e.g., Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, EC2).
5. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
6. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
7. Full driving license and own transport.
Desirable skills and experience:
1. Willingness to learn and work with 3D modelling tools (e.g., Blender, 3DS Max, Maya).
2. Understanding of basic 3D rendering concepts (e.g., shaders, textures, UV maps) or an eagerness to learn.
3. Familiarity with CAD or BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit) is a bonus but not essential.
4. Knowledge of software design patterns and best practices.
5. Experience releasing apps on platforms like iOS, Android, Steam, etc.
6. Exposure to Agile development methodologies.
7. A GitHub portfolio or code samples showcasing programming expertise, with AR/VR experience considered a plus.

Location:
Candidates will be required to be resident in Ireland and within commuting distance of IMR offices located in Rathcoole, Co. Dublin or Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. We offer a hybrid working model with onsite presence in either office required at least one day per week. Travel between offices and client sites will be required from time to time.
