Purpose of the role:
The Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist will provide an appropriate and evidence-based clinical service to endometriosis patients alongside Gynaecology Consultants and relevant health professionals. The postholder will undertake triage of referrals for patients with endometriosis to ensure efficient and effective management of the waiting list and to improve the patient pathway of care. They will provide advanced physiotherapy assessment, management, and treatment of patients referred to the endometriosis service as part of the National Women’s and Infants Health Programme (NWHIP).
Overview of role:
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Develop pathways between hospital and primary care for patient referrals and follow-up therapy.
* Undertake assessments, draw up individual treatment plans, and provide effective treatment to all referred patients.
* Set and maintain a high standard of clinical practice.
* Ensure patient privacy and dignity is respected at all times.
* Liaise with patients, carers, and other health professionals for a holistic approach to patient care.
* Maintain communication with Consultants, General Practitioners, and community care team members.
* Plan and implement a care package from hospital to home.
* Stay updated with current changes in clinical practice.
* Maintain accurate record-keeping to comply with legal requirements.
* Attend clinics, team meetings, and/or ward rounds as necessary.
* Participate in departmental training and teaching programs.
* Organize and facilitate national and international courses.
* Supervise, teach, and advise junior staff, students, and ancillary staff.
* Liaise with teaching staff for clinical training and assessment of physiotherapy students.
* Participate in multi-disciplinary and multi-centred trials.
* Attend mandatory training programs.
* Responsible for the organization and provision of physiotherapy services for assigned patients.
* Participate in clinical audit activities to monitor clinical standards.
* Comply with departmental policies on data collection and health and safety guidelines.
* Conduct regular appraisals with staff.
* Advise manager on planning and development of the specialty area.
* Ensure a safe working environment for patients and staff.
* Assist with the induction of junior staff.
* Read and act upon all issued staff policies.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Physiotherapy Manager.
Qualifications & Experience required
Must have:
* Hold a Physiotherapy qualification recognized by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.
* Be registered on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.
* Have the clinical and administrative capacity to fulfill the role's functions.
* Demonstrate evidence of formal continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism.
* Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence and achievement in clinical audit, quality improvement, practice development, advanced clinical reasoning, teaching, and research.
* Hold a minimum of 5 full-time (or equivalent) years post-qualification experience, including at least two years in Pelvic Health.
* Experience in the supervision of junior physiotherapists and students.
* Must have a valid EU work permit/visa.
Desirable:
* Clinical MSc Physiotherapy relevant to the post.
* First contact experience in an acute hospital setting.
* Experience in pessary management.
* Experience in managing chronic pain conditions.
* Advanced Practice Physiotherapy training.
* Previous experience in research.
* On-call competent.
Reward & Recognition
* Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3707.
* The post is part-time (17.5 hours), temporary, and pensionable.
* Annual leave entitlement is 29 working days per year for full-time positions, calculated pro-rata for part-time positions.
* Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days, with contracted hours liable to change between 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days.
