Job Description
As a Supplier Management Specialist at {company}, you will be responsible for managing our fresh produce supplier and grower database to ensure accurate information is held and assist in eliminating gaps.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Managing the supplier database to guarantee timely updates and minimize discrepancies.
* Gathering data from suppliers through effective communication and relationship building.
* Tracking, reviewing, and evaluating completed supplier due diligence assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards.
* Facilitating the timely approval of new suppliers to meet business needs.
* Conducting regular supplier performance assessments to identify areas for improvement.
* Escalating issues with suppliers and raising complaints as necessary to maintain high-quality standards.
* Overseeing product testing (microbiological and pesticide analysis) according to schedule to ensure product safety.
* Gathering ethical, pesticide, and certification information for suppliers and their products.
* Working meticulously across all technical/compliance platforms to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
* Providing support for internal and external audits, customer visits, and other related tasks as required.
* Fostering a culture of food safety within the site to prevent deviations that could impact product safety, quality, and legality.
* Performing additional tasks as assigned by the Technical Manager.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
* Proven experience in supplier approval and due diligence requirements for major retailers, food service, or manufacturers.
* Familiarity with certification/approval processes and retailer platforms, such as GFSI standards, Leaf Marque, or Telus Supply Chain.
* Previous experience working in the food industry, particularly in HACCP knowledge and implementation.
* Understanding of current food regulation and legislation surrounding pesticides.
* Excellent administration and IT skills, with high attention to detail and self-motivation.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer relations skills.
* A methodical approach to work, with flexibility to adapt to changing business needs.
* An educational background in food science, food safety management, or a related discipline.
* Prior experience within the Fresh Produce industry would be highly advantageous.
