Reporting to the Regulatory Framework Manager, the Northern Ireland Energy Transition Manager will be the pivotal person responsible for monitoring and influencing policy developments in Northern Ireland to the benefit of the GNI(UK) businesses as the NI Energy Strategy evolves into delivery model.
The position will involve close collaboration with key subject matter experts across the GNI business on topics such as policy, biomethane and hydrogen, gas safety, operations and research and development as they relate to Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Energy Transition Manager will also work closely with key external senior stakeholders such as the Department for the Economy (DfE) who are responsible for delivering the energy strategy for Northern Ireland, and with the Utility Regulator for Northern Ireland (UReg).
The Energy Transition Manager will be required to engage with UReg at a senior level on funding requests for specific activities required to enable the decarbonisation of the gas networks in Northern Ireland.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Work cross functionally with internal stakeholders to develop project, resource and deliver relevant energy transition projects which GNI(UK) wish to progress in Northern Ireland.
* Develop and manage a complex stakeholder engagement plan for Northern Ireland energy transition activities.
* Engage with the UReg on requesting and allocating funding to support GNI(UK)’s delivery of proposed energy transition projects.
* Programme manage internal resources delivery, availability and time ensuring that GNI(UK) operates within budget and allowance for the respective energy transition projects, as required.
* Represent and lead GNI(UK) inputs into the Northern Ireland Gas Network Operators Energy Transition Group.
* Represent and lead GNI(UK) at other relevant energy forums including NI Gas Network Strategy Working Group, NI Hydrogen Industry Working Group, and Invest NI’s ‘Industrial Decarbonisation NI’ Advisory Board.
* Lead and deliver GNI(UK)’s inputs into key policy position papers and consultation responses relevant to Northern Ireland.
* Develop and manage relationships with key senior stakeholders including Directors and Executives within UReg and DfE.
* Work closely with key subject matter experts within the GNI business to deliver the energy transition projects required to support the decarbonisation of the gas network in Northern Ireland.
* Programme manage the delivery of a regulatory framework and operational and technical business readiness for the connection of biomethane in Northern Ireland.
* The role will involve regular travel to Belfast for face to face stakeholder engagement with senior regulators and officials.
* Developing and managing the company’s interactions with key Northern Ireland Stakeholders.
* Developing key relations and working closely with the European Affairs and Policy team, Customer and Business Development functions, Future Networks team and other functions in Gas Networks Ireland.
* Monitor, review and communicate developments regarding Northern Ireland energy policy activities.
* Engaging with the GNI Executive team to ensure they are kept abreast of NI energy policy developments.
* Assess the implications of modifications to relevant GNI (UK) contracts and licences.
* Other duties may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
* Relevant qualification such as Engineering, Law or Business Degree or equivalent.
* A minimum of 7-10 years post qualification experience.
* Previous responsibility in a Regulatory, Policy, programme management or business development role would be advantageous.
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland regulatory gas arrangements and policy landscape.
* Extensive experience in building and maintaining relationships at senior level within the business across Government and Regulatory Authorities.
* Strong project management, budget management and resourcing skills.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Proven track record of excellent analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills.
* The ability to work on their own and make key decisions as and when required.
* A good understanding of business operations and the commercial viability and impact of technical decisions.
* Driver of high standards for individual, team and organisational accomplishment.
* Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion.
* The ability to ensure professional responses to key policy positions.
* United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Irish and European gas industry knowledge will be an advantage.
