Reports to: CNM3/ADON or other nominated Manager
Salary: Appointment will be made on the Laundry Worker Scale (€34,240 - €40,379) at a point in line with Government pay policy
Hours of work: 25 hours per week

Job Summary
The main task is to oversee the laundry of the resident’s/patients clothing and other items in the Raheny Community Nursing Unit/St Joseph’s Hospital campus. This includes collection, washing, drying, ironing, labelling, sorting and delivery of all clothing. Upkeep of the laundry room and comply with all policies, procedures and protocols.
Responsibilities
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
* Ensuring all clothing is washed/dried/ironed/labelled to appropriate standards and collected and returned to the residents/patients in a timely manner.
* Maintain compliance with all relevant Hospital Policies and Procedures.
* To ensure the laundry area is maintained to the highest standards of presentation.
* Follow all cleaning schedules with due regard to specified standard operational procedures and infection control procedure.
* Undertake regular training, as and when required, including infection control refresher, manual handling refresher and fire safety training.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
* Ensure that a regular supply of detergent and fabric conditioner is provided and ensure stock levels are checked daily and ordered when necessary.
* Use of all machinery in the laundry area.
* Ensure the upkeep of the laundry room and it is kept to a high standard and comply with all IPC measures.
* Provide all new residents with named laundry bags and label all clothing.
* Follow all policies and procedures including health and safety and fire policies.
* Report any hazards to management.
* Be aware of chemical awareness and undertake required training.
* Collect dirty laundry from each unit and sluice room on a daily basis.
* Sort all garments, fabric and linen into types for separate washing cycles.
* Search all garments to ensure there are no items held in pockets (e.g., jewellery, glasses, dentures).
* Ensure all laundry is completed according to the manufacturers' instructions.
* Remove stains using appropriate procedures.
* Ensure that all laundry is thoroughly dried, ironed and folded neatly for returning in mesh bags on a daily basis.
* Return resident laundry in a timely manner.
* Ensure all residents' clothing is marked/labelled correctly and stored individually for return.
* Hand wash items (e.g., wool and silk) as per washing instructions.
* Launder other items (i.e., resident/patient blankets) when required.
* Provide an ironing service for laundry where required.
* Liaise with each ward CNM/operations lead/TSD regarding any issues with resident clothing when relevant.
* Be aware of Infection Control procedures during outbreaks such as MRSA and C Diff.
* Follow uniform policy, including use of protective clothing when required.
* Maintain the laundry department in line with HIQA standards.
* Implement and uphold the highest standards of service ensuring cleanliness and hygiene compliance with Hospital Health and Safety policies.
* Initiate, support and implement quality improvement initiatives.
* Notify operations lead/TSD or other relevant staff of faulty equipment or maintenance requirements.
* Maintain records of all laundry and other records and audits where required.
* Record incidents when required to comply with Health & Safety.
