Engineering Technician (Packaging)
This role supports the installation, maintenance, overhaul, adjustment and modification of plant and production equipment in the Packaging area, as well as fabrication of new and replacement equipment. The Engineering Technician is involved in troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives in the Packaging area.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide direct support to production and maintenance teams to resolve daily issues and assist with troubleshooting.
* Install, modify and maintain full range of production equipment in Packaging area.
* Continuously improve production operations and efficiency by fine tuning equipment to increase output, reducing downtime and waste.
* Deliver optimal performance in Packaging area while working to highest engineering standards.
* Assist in validation of new and existing equipment including acceptance trials and debugging.
* Liaise with vendors, suppliers and local engineering shops.
* Analyse customer complaints and internal quality issues, assist in drawing up improvement programmes for equipment to eliminate defects.
* Assist with training of other Engineering Technicians, new recruits and apprentices as required.
* Work closely with maintenance team to apply learnings from breakdowns to improve preventative maintenance practices.
* Participate in company-wide continuous improvement initiatives, working in teams and utilising quality tools as applicable.
* Maintain appropriate recording and reporting systems on all engineering related matters.
* Maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping in Packaging area.
Educational Requirements:
* Good knowledge of Mechanical and Electronic Systems associated with high volume manufacturing equipment, or National Craft Certificate with additional specialised training and experience.
Relevant Experience:
* Experience in Packaging – ideally Schubert.
* Automation experience, ideally Cognex vision systems, Domino/Videojet laser printers, AB PLCs.
* Electrical/automation environment with good mechanical experience.
* Industrial experience working in high-volume manufacturing environment.
* Ability to apply scientific approach to problem solving, blending analytical and experimental skills to maximise productivity and yields.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
* Relevant PC skills.
