Dublin Dental University HospitalLocum Academic Associate Professor/Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Specified Purpose Contract 12 Months, 18.5 hours per week/0.5 FTE) The Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH) is seeking to recruit Academic Associate Professor /Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) 18.5 hours/0.5 FTE. This is a Specified Purpose Contract for one year as an academic post between Trinity College Dublin and The Dublin Dental University Hospital and to backfill a Senior Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) staff member in the Division of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology. Clinical responsibilities include the management of patients requiring secondary and tertiary care in the area of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) and other patient cohorts as directed. Applicants must have substantial teaching experience at university level including the clinical supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in oral surgery and in OMFS. The successful applicant will contribute to education in the undergraduate curricula in the School of Dental Science and the Dublin Dental University Hospital. A three-year taught doctoral programme in Oral Surgery is well established and the successful applicant will support and contribute to the organisation and delivery of this programme, including research.This academic post will be at the forefront of developments in Irish Healthcare and the successful candidate will be expected to further develop and manage the education/training and research in the area of OMFS and provide a consultant service for the care of people who come within the remit of the speciality. The position reports and is accountable to the Head of Division of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology and ultimately the Dean of Dental Affairs for educational and research matters. The appointee will be responsible for any clinical matters to the Clinical Director. As Locum Academic Associate Professor/Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (equivalent to Senior Lecturer/Consultant HSE title and pay scale) at the Dublin Dental University Hospital. The appointee will be based at the Dublin Dental University Hospital and will be responsible for the delivery of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services. Qualifications, Experience & Person SpecificationThe key duties of the role are to backfill the clinical role of the Locum Academic Associate Professor/Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Dublin Dental University Hospital. The following qualifications shall apply to this appointment:Hold full registration in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery division of the Specialist Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland or must be eligible for registration.Have experience in Surgical Head and Neck Oncology.Hold full registration on the Register of Dental Practitioners maintained by the Dental Council of Ireland or must be eligible for registration.Hold or be eligible for Full Registration with the Dental Council (Oral Surgery List).Hold a Higher Research Degree (MSc, DChDent, MD, PhD) (desirable). Outline of Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH) is a tertiary referral centre for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It provides comprehensive oral/and dental diagnostic, surgical support service for oral, head and neck cancers, pre-radiation dental assessments and radiation stents for pre-radiation patients and implant/prostheses reconstruction after treatment. ClinicalProvide Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services to patients in accordance with the set commitments of the post at Dublin Dental University Hospital.Work in conjunction with the Director of the DCH Dent in Oral Surgery, Director of Postgraduate Teaching & Learning and the Director of Undergraduate Teaching & Learning.Participate in the planning, development and provision of effective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services.Provide and attend for consultation on patients as required.Take responsibility for the care and treatment of patients admitted under their charge at the Hospital and other institutions as required.Maintain patient records and to supply such reports and other information as may be required by the Hospitals with regard to activity.Be involved in the development and updating of hospital clinical policies at the DDUH.Participate in multi-disciplinary team conferences and take responsibility for the maintenance of appropriate liaison arrangements between Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and other specialties.Support the continued expansion and development of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service and research portfolio.Participate in the DDUH consultant on-call rota. Education and ResearchContribute to the organisation and delivery of the B Dent Sc undergraduate training programme and the DCH Dent Oral Surgery, both laboratory and clinical. This includes taking responsibility for the preparation of all teaching material, course documentation, resource management and laboratory and clinic placements.Participate in the administration, organisation and delivery of OMFS and Oral Surgery teaching and training to undergraduates, postgraduates, those in higher training and continuing education courses.Engage and lead clinical audits and risk management.Undertake and supervise independent research related to OMFS. GeneralAttend as and when required at the Dublin Dental University Hospital and in any partner hospital or institution of the Dublin Dental University Hospital.Work with the Head of Division/Dean of Dental Affairs/Clinical Director/the CEO and supporting structures of the hospital in all matters appertaining to the general efficiency of the hospital.Supervise and be responsible for the proper performance of their duties by the staff assigned to the area and services under their control and instruct them in the proper performance of their duties.Provide leadership and organisation for academic programmes. Participate and deliver Problem Based Learning tutorials, undergraduate and postgraduate clinical skills training and supervision and postgraduate seminars, as required.Initiate, support and implement Continuous Quality Improvements and Accreditation initiatives appropriate to the service in agreement with the Executive Team.Maintain Continuous Professional (and Personal) Development.Participate in the administration and promotion of the activities and interests of the Dublin Dental University Hospital.Reside within such distance convenient to the designated work base as may be approved by the CEO.Perform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be assigned to them by the Clinical Director/Head of Division/Dean/CEO.
