They also operate a high-end 6-acre plant nursery and retail center, supplying premium trees and perennial plants to commercial and residential clients.As part of their continued expansion, they are seeking an experienced and qualified Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of the business, ensuring strong financial management, strategic planning, and compliance.Role Overview:The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, managing budgets, cash flow, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can provide financial insights to drive business growth and efficiency.Key Responsibilities:Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to support business strategy.Monitor cash flow, working capital, and cost control to optimize financial health.Provide financial analysis and insights to the Managing Director and senior leadership.Ensure compliance with tax regulations (VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, etc.) and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors.Accounting & ComplianceOversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, receivable, and payroll.Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with accounting standards.Manage and improve internal controls, financial policies, and procedures.Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies.Business Strategy & Financial InsightsIdentify cost-saving opportunities and financial efficiencies within the business.Support strategic decision-making by providing financial modeling and scenario analysis.Work closely with the Managing Director to develop and implement financial strategies for business growth.Provide financial guidance on investment decisions, pricing strategies, and cost management.Systems & Process ImprovementImprove financial systems, reporting tools, and automation processes.Ensure the effective use of accounting software and financial reporting tools.Work with external auditors, banks, and stakeholders to maintain strong financial governance.Key Requirements:Qualifications & Experience3-5 years experience in a similar Financial Controller or senior finance role.Experience within a landscaping, horticulture, construction, or retail business is an advantage but not essential.Technical SkillsStrong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations.Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.Experience managing payroll, VAT returns, and statutory compliance.Personal Attributes & Soft SkillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.Excellent communication and leadership skills to work with non-financial managers.Highly organized, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Proactive and strategic mindset, with the ability to drive financial improvements.Benefits & Package:Competitive salary based on experience.Opportunity for career progression in a growing company.Hybrid work options (depending on business needs).Staff discounts on nursery products and landscaping services.A collaborative and supportive team environment.
