Role:
The Design Manager is responsible for managing the design process and ensuring that all design documents and drawings are accurate, complete, and comply with relevant regulations and standards.
The Design Manager is also responsible for ensuring that any design changes or variations are properly reviewed and approved before implementation, to avoid any adverse impact on quality. Additionally, they are responsible for coordinating with the construction team to ensure that the design intent is correctly implemented during construction, including the deployment of tech subs, samples, mock-ups.
Key Responsibilities
* Design Leadership: Oversee the development of full building designs from concept through to detailed stages, ensuring alignment with client requirements and regulatory standards.
* Project Coordination: Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated and cohesive design solutions. Work in conjunction with the site team to manage the setting out of the project with emphasis on the coordinated design information
* Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain rigorous design review processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and excellence in all deliverables. Prepare and Maintain submittal documentation and processes in conjunction with the other design management team members.
* Client Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for clients during the design phase, addressing queries and incorporating feedback to achieve client satisfaction. Complete and document all stage gate reviews with the client for close management of the programme.
* Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of design engineers and technicians and work closely with the preconstruction, procurement and site teams.
* Budget and Schedule Management: Develop and manage design budgets and schedules, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within financial parameters. Track all design changes against tender documentation and liaise with the commercial team to manage any variations that may occur.
* Technical Support: Provide expertise during the construction phase, assisting with the resolution of design-related issues and ensuring fidelity to design intent as well as ongoing engagement with the Assigned Certifier and Design Certifiers.
Skills and Experience Required
* Bachelor’s degree in architectural Technologist, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
* Minimum of 8 years’ experience in design work within the construction industry, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
* Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant tools.
* Comprehensive understanding of industry codes, standards, and best practices.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality results under tight deadlines.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of effective client and team interactions.
