The Corporate Enforcement Authority (CEA) is Ireland’s company law enforcement agency. The CEA’s core functions include promoting compliance with company law, investigating suspected instances of non-compliance, and taking enforcement action as necessary.
About the Role
The CEA is seeking to fill 2 posts of Higher Legal Executive. The successful candidate will experience a varied and challenging portfolio of responsibilities and involvement in work that is both innovative and ground-breaking in company law, civil and criminal law. They will primarily be involved with managing assigned files under supervision, attending prosecution counsel, attending court, costs accounting in the Office, and liaising with court staff. The successful candidate will be required to carry out duties in one or more of the different Legal Directorates of the Authority and will report to the Senior Legal Advisors.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The functions list below is non-exhaustive, and successful candidates will be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the posts which may be assigned from time to time and to contribute to the development of the post. Among other tasks, the successful candidate will primarily engage in the following:
* Managing assigned files under appropriate supervision.
* Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including counsel, witnesses, An Garda Síochána, and the Court Service in relation to casework.
* Preparing legal documents for service and filing e.g., Production Orders, Notices of Motion, and Affidavits supporting applications to the Courts.
* Supporting prosecuting lawyers in court e.g. District Court proceedings, Judicial Review matters.
* Processing legal costs, accounting, and legal costs recovery work.
* Assisting in the training, development, and management of legal executives, trainee law clerks, or administrative staff.
* Maintaining case notes and completing post-court administration, including updating the case management system and physical files.
* Utilising ICT case management systems and applications to obtain the maximum benefits from these tools, including IT tools to manage disclosure obligations.
* Contributing to the development of processes and procedures in relation to data quality, case management, and reporting metrics in line with our strategic objectives.
* Contributing to the overall management and strategic development of research and analysis services within the CEA.
* Contributing to the overall development of the CEA and wider organisation by sharing their knowledge and experience.
* Any other duties, including administrative, which may be deemed appropriate by CEA senior management from time to time.
All Higher Legal Executives work collaboratively and proactively to provide support as needed to colleagues in their own team and across the Divisions and the organisation.
