The Department of Tourism and Hospitality at Munster Technological University encompasses the areas of Culinary Arts, Tourism, Hospitality Management & Home Economics. It has some 500 students and a team of dedicated student-centred industry experienced lecturers across these disciplines. The Department is located in a modern purpose-built building on MTUs Bishopstown campus and is a leading provider of education in the culinary domain. The courses focus on the real needs and skills required of workers in the culinary & food industries, and are an ideal blend of practical skills, underpinned by the requisite theoretical knowledge, all linked to work based learning. The Department of Tourism and Hospitality aims to maintain and build on its leadership role in providing innovative and challenging programmes for the broad tourism, hospitality and food related industries. These programmes are designed to develop the individual, to support career development and to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in a complex and challenging environment. The successful candidate for this role, will provide discipline expertise in the area of Home Economics, and will help promote MTU as a centre of excellence in Home Economics provision. Duties of the Post: The Lecturer Career Grade will play an active role in the academic direction of courses including teaching, research, academic assessment and academic administration. The appointee should carry out such duties as are assigned by management including but not limited to: (a) Teaching such assigned classes as deemed appropriate by management of the Munster Technological University (herein after, the University), day or evening, up to 560 hours per annum including supervision of post-graduate students. (b) Carrying out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of examinations work, and providing an academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities. (c) Providing academic input on existing and new courses and course development and course co-ordination. (d) Engaging in research, consultancy and development work as appropriate. (e) Participating in committees appropriate to courses and meetings convened by management. (f) Maintaining appropriate records and making available information as required by management. (g) Engaging in promotion including student recruitment. (h) Promoting scholarship. (i) Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of academic quality assurance arrangements. (j) Participating in appropriate activities necessary to the development of their department/school and of the University. (k) Directing and supervising the work of Tutor/Demonstrator and taking academic responsibility for the academic standards of this work. The performance of these duties will require attendance in addition to class contact hours during the normal working week. Qualification Requirements and Selection Criteria for role: Essential: A relevant Level 8 Honours Primary Degree (second class or higher) and a relevant level 9 Masters Degree from a recognised degree awarding authority, majoring in degree level studies in Home Economics or closely related discipline. AND/OR An equivalent relevant professional qualification obtained through examination. AND Not less than three years of relevant experience subsequent to obtaining the above qualifications. A successful candidate will be required to submit a passport, documentary evidence confirming academic qualifications, and to undergo a medical examination.
