Post Title: CNM 1 Urology and Urodynamics Post Status: PermanentDepartment TUN Directorate Location: Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9Reports to: CNM 2 Urology and Urodynamics and Tun Directorate Nurse ManagerSalary: Appointment will be made on Clinical Nurse Manager 1 Grade (€54,981 - €64,750) at a point in line with Government pay policy. Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday)Closing Date: Wednesday 18th December 2024 @ 12noon Position Summary: The job holder is expected to demonstrate team leadership and management in the maintenance and development of a high quality nursing service to patients. The Urology/ Urodynamics CNM 1 in conjunction with the Urology/ Urodynamics CNM 2 in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the department. The main responsibilities are: management of the urology/urodynamics outpatients’ on a day to day basis, practice development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.
Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Provide clinical care and assist with all Urology procedures. 2. Manage the day to day management of the Urology/Urodynamics outpatient department3. Provide Pre and Post-operative care to patients in an outpatients setting.4. Provide clinical management and independent care for Uroflows, catheter changes, etc.5. Provide clinical care and education for the patients with catheter changes, self-catheterisation, and trial without catheter. 6. Provide education to staff members on the wards throughout the hospital.7. Provide education and training in intermittent self-catherisation.8. Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach.9. Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.10. Be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of service user care by all staff in designated area(s).11. Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI. 12. Practice nursing according to:• Professional Clinical Guidelines• National and Area Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines. • Local policies, protocols and guidelines• Current legislation13. Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post.14. Manage and assist at manometry clinics15. Participate in teams / meetings / committees as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members. 16. Facilitate co-ordination, co-operation and liaison across healthcare teams and programmes.17. Collaborate with service users, family, carers and other staff in treatment / care planning and in the provision of support and advice.18. Communicate verbally and / or in writing results of assessments, treatment / care programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy. 19. Ensure that service users and others are treated with dignity and respect.20. Maintain nursing records in accordance with local service and professional standards.21. Adhere to and contribute to the development and maintenance of nursing standards, protocols and guidelines consistent with the highest standards of patient care.22. Ensure compliance with legal requirements, policies and procedures affecting service users, staff and other hospital matters.23. Manage and promote liaisons with internal / external bodies as appropriate e.g. intra-hospital service and the community. 24. Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements. 25. Engage in IT developments as they apply to service user and service administration.26. Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation.27. Participate in clinical audit as required.28. Initiate and participate in research studies as appropriate.29. Devise and implement Health Promotion Programmes for service users as relevant to the post.30. Operate within the scope of practice - seek advice and assistance from his / her manager with any cases or issues that prove to be beyond the scope of his / her professional competence in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance.STANDARDS AND QUALITY OF CARE1. Quality initiatives within the Unit with the aim of improving patient care and promoting the further development of Nursing within the speciality.2. Identifying areas of practice which require review and update and lead in the development of evidence based practice in consultation with staff.3. Participate in the collection and collation of statistical and clinical data.4. Lead and implement change.5. Promote, facilitate and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures. 6. Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.EDUCATION - STAFF DEVELOPMENT1. Create and maintain an environment conducive to evidence based teaching, learning and practice.2. Act as an effective role model, mentor and leader of staff i.e. leading by example.4. Lead in the training and development of the Healthcare Assistant role in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Manager 2.5. Identify training and development needs of individual staff assigned to the department and set objectives for such learning.6. Identify and utilise teaching, learning and practice opportunities in the clinical setting and encourage problem based learning strategies based on patient health problems.8. Participate and give lectures on the speciality at Induction/Orientation Training Programmes, Continuing Education Programmes and Post Graduate Nursing Programmes as appropriate.9. Ensure the availability of appropriate information/educational resources for patients and families aiming to encourage independence, the prevention of illness and the promotion of health for renal patients.10. Actively seek research findings, which will support clinical practice and participate actively with research opportunities within the Ward.11. Engage in continuing professional development by keeping up to date with nursing literature, recent nursing research and new developments in nursing management, education and practice and to attend staff study days as considered appropriate.12. Be familiar with the curriculum training programme for student nurses and be aware of the clinical experience required to meet the needs of the programme.13. Participate in the identification, development and delivery of induction, education, training and development programmes for nursing and non-nursing staff.14. Provide support and supportive supervision to Clinical Nurse Manager 1 and front-line staff where appropriate.15. Supervise and assess student nurses and foster a clinical learning environment.16. Engage in performance review processes including personal development planning as appropriate.HEALTHCARE ASSITANTS1. Ensure that the work of the Health Care Assistants is implemented to the required standard as per job specification.2. Ensure that the systems for induction and training of healthcare assistants are implemented in a satisfactory manner.3. Supervise, support and encourage auxiliary staff in the implementation of their role and ensure that nursing staff know and understand these roles.4. Ensure that the work of the clerical administrative staff is implemented to the required standard as per job specification and liase with Renal Unit Clerical Supervisor with regard to training and development needs. SELF DEVELOPMENT1. Have a creative outlook enabling progress to be made towards the ultimate objective of reaching standards of excellence in the delivery of nursing care and in the co-ordination of multi-disciplinary care.2. Maintain and update knowledge of relevant professional development and all current trends in the speciality of UROLOGY nursing, and an awareness of future trends.3. Develop personal skills in urology nursing with "hands on" nursing commitment.4. Attend and participate in staff development programmes and attend speciality meetings and conferences, as required.5. Discuss present performance and future needs with Directorate Nurse Manager, using Job Performance Review in accordance with unit policy. ADMINISTRATIVE1. Ensure the correct completion of unit records and reports.2. Actively promote the utilisation and further development of clinical and administrative computerisation.3. Assist in the preparation of the Annual Departmental Report.4. Assist with stock management and ordering. The job description represents the main functions of the role and is subject to review and amendment to reflect the needs of the service.
Qualifications
Selection Criteria: Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:(i) Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwivesmaintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) (BordAltranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.(ii) Have at least 3 years post registration fulltime experience (or an aggregate of 3years post registration full time experience) of which 1 year post registration fulltime experience (or an aggregate of 1 years post registration full time experience)must be in the speciality or related area.(iii) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly dischargethe functions of the role.(iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of Continuing Professional Development.2. Annual registration(i) On appointment, Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevantdivision of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing andMidwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual PatientSafety Assurance Certificate (PSAC). 3.
