Assistant Lecturer Work Placement Coordination for Students with Intellectual Disability
This role involves coordinating student preparation and participation, implementing student assessment, and reviewing related duties associated with the work placement component of the Certificate in Personal and Professional Development for Employability and Further Studies.
The Certificate program is specifically designed for students with intellectual disabilities and is a pilot project funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) under its PATH 4, Phase 2 scheme.
The objective of this pilot project is to enhance course provision for students with intellectual disabilities at Munster Technological University (MTU).
The pilot will support future evidence-informed policy considerations in respect of the successful participation of students with intellectual disabilities in higher education.
The pilot at MTU will have 10 places for students with an intellectual disability.
Responsibilities:
* Teaching, research, academic assessment, and academic administration.
* Coordinating student preparation and participation.
* Implementing student assessment and review.
* Providing academic input on existing and new courses and course development.
* Engaging in research, consultancy, and development work as appropriate.
* Maintaining appropriate records and making available information as required.
* Participating in promotion, including student recruitment as appropriate.
* Directing and supervising the work of Tutor/Demonstrator and taking academic responsibility for the academic standards of this work.
Requirements:
* A minimum of a second-class honours primary degree in disciplines such as Education, Social Sciences, Social Care, Humanities, Community Development, Science, or Veterinary Nursing.
* Three years of relevant postgraduate experience.
* Desirable: Experience of developing support plans for students with intellectual disabilities, supporting students with learning needs in 1:1, group, and work placement settings, career guidance and planning, job matching with students' aptitudes, and supporting students to develop job search skills, interview techniques, work behavior skills, and work communications skills.
Salary:
The salary scale for an Assistant Lecturer per annum is €45,140 - €61,254. Progression to the grade of Lecturer is possible after one year's service, subject to a minimum of five years continuous service, having regard to ability, experience, academic qualifications, scholarship, and demonstrated performance.
