The Director of Nursing is the Person in Charge as per the Heath Information Quality Authority (HIQA) and has overall responsibility for the implementation and compliance with HIQA regulations and standards.
In the context of the person-centred philosophy of the hospital, the Director of Nursing will be responsible for the overall management of the hospital.
S/he will provide strategic leadership, operating in accordance with the policies of the HSE and in collaboration with other professionals and service managers in achieving service goals.
The Director of Nursing has a pivotal role in creating the vision and culture for the hospital.
S/he has overarching responsibility for service planning, co-ordinating and managing activity and resources and will lead in the implementation of change.
S/he will empower staff to support older people to continue to exercise independence.
