Job Description: Mechanical Engineer (9 month contract)
We are seeking experienced and proactive Mechanical Engineers to join a multidisciplinary team responsible for managing and maintaining mechanical plant, marine vessels, vehicles, and M&E systems. This role combines technical oversight with strategic input, ensuring compliance, operational efficiency, and the development of innovative mechanical engineering solutions.
Job Responsibilities
* Manage the maintenance and servicing of mechanical plant, marine vessels, and vehicles.
* Ensure compliance with relevant vehicle and equipment legislation and regulations.
* Supervise internal mechanical teams and external contractors, including emergency response.
* Develop and maintain computerised fleet and plant management systems.
* Prepare technical specifications and manage the procurement process for mechanical assets.
* Promote and apply safety, health, and welfare policies across all mechanical operations.
* Support sustainability initiatives, including carbon footprint reduction strategies.
* Conduct risk assessments and ensure statutory compliance in mechanical activities.
* Liaise with environmental bodies and statutory authorities as needed.
* Produce technical reports and data presentations for internal and cross-functional use.
Job Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Level 8 NFQ or equivalent with mechanical/electrical content).
* Minimum of 2 years' relevant post-qualification experience.
* Experience in maintaining construction plant and managing compliance for vehicles and equipment.
* Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation in an engineering environment.
* Proficient in using IT-based engineering tools for design, diagnostics, and development.
* Skilled in technical reporting, procurement, and project tracking.
* Working knowledge of electrical/hydraulic systems and mechanical instrumentation.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Willingness and ability to travel to various work sites as required.
* Experience with marine plant and understanding of cross-jurisdictional operations (desirable).
