Registrar in Palliative Medicine (July 2025 Rotation)
Marymount University Hospital & Hospice's Specialist Palliative Care service is now accepting applications for the July 2025 Registrar rotation (12 Month Fixed-Term Contract). This is an exciting opportunity to work with a committed Consultant-led multidisciplinary team in the provision of inpatient, outpatient, and community specialist palliative care services across the region. The post is based at Marymount University Hospital & Hospice but will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues at various acute settings in Cork, including: South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, Mallow General Hospital, and Bantry General Hospital.

Essential Qualifying Criteria
* Evidence of registration with Medical Council of Ireland before commencement.
* Highly skilled in communication, evidenced in written and oral formats.
Desirable Criteria
* Full Valid Driving license and access to own transport.
* Palliative Care experience.
* Experience in an associated relevant specialty.
* Competence in MS Office suite and other relevant packages.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Registrar will be based on the in-patient unit though may have a minority commitment to our Community Team and commitments to other acute settings locally. Daily duties will include the admission and ongoing care of patients to the inpatient unit, working closely with the multidisciplinary team and under the supervision of the Consultant in Palliative Medicine, in addition to:
* The Registrar will be supported by the lead Consultant for the ward and will work collaboratively with other Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs) in the unit.
* The Registrar will provide support and advice to colleagues on the multidisciplinary team.
* The Registrar will liaise closely with all relevant medical and other MDT members - both in-house and out of house - as required.
* The Registrar will be responsible for the admission and ongoing care of patients.
* The Registrar will demonstrate flexibility in work practices and cross-cover for colleagues on the inpatient unit as required.
* The Registrar may be required to take part in the on-call rota on an approximate basis.
* The Registrar will be required to attend sessional commitments to Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, and South Infirmary-Victoria University Hospital.
* The post-holder will play a senior role at ward rounds including presentation of patients.
* The Registrar will order and organise such tests as are appropriate.
* The post-holder will participate in audit, teaching, and research as directed by the Consultants.
* The Registrar will keep appropriate medical records, comply with local and national standards in this regard, and use IT applications as guided.
* The Registrar will participate in committee meetings as and when required.
