Medical Scientist Haematology Panel
The ideal candidate will be responsible for participating in the Quality Management System (QMS) as defined in the ISO 15189, other associated INAB guideline documents and other Government and EU Directives as required.
Responsibilities:
* Report to the Chief Medical Scientist of their assigned section or to report on a day-to-day basis to designated senior staff when required.
* Participate in quality assurance activities.
* Test and process samples and prepare products.
* Operate automated testing systems, maintain equipment, validate testing kits, prepare samples for testing, record and report results.
* Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the position assigned or as assigned by Mercy University Hospital.
* Attend Laboratory training as required.
* Participate in writing and updating of Laboratory Documentation as requested by Senior Staff.
* Participate in training of staff and maintenance of Training Records as requested by Senior Staff.
* Perform routine work to the highest professional standards as determined by the Laboratory management team.
* Be responsible for the quality of their work and carry out their duties in accordance with the Boards policy.
* Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of Mercy University Hospitals information.
* Actively participate in internal and external quality control and quality assurance/ internal proficiency as appropriate.
* Participate in the provision of appropriate statistical and management information, and reports.
* Participate in the computer integrated management system of the laboratory.
* Make the most effective and efficient use of developments in information technology for both patient care and administrative support.
* Make the most efficient use of reagents / consumables and actively manage blood and blood products in accordance with best practice to ensure minimum outdating.
* Conform to Mercy University Hospitals Health and Safety standards.
* Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned from time to time by laboratory management.
Person Specification / Selection Criteria:
Essential Criteria:
* Must be eligible for CORU and registered for same by end of 31st March 2021.
* Fulfil the qualifications and eligibility criteria as laid down by the DOH&C.
* Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Problem solving.
* Ability to make rational calm decisions.
* Skills at diagnosis, especially skills of deduction.
* High level of commitment to tasks undertaken in quality environment.
* Must be able to prioritise their work so as to meet the demands of meeting different timelines and able to work on their own where and when this is required.
* Must demonstrate flexibility to work in a demand driven environment, enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to co-operate.
* Good computer skills.
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience of working in the area of relevant discipline.
