The Role
Reporting to the Process & Technology Manager, the Mould Tooling Engineer is primarily responsible for developing and sustaining optimum molding processes for the manufacturing of regulated molded components. The role will provide technical / project management support for the introduction of new molding equipment and processes to site. It will also provide technical support for processing issues or changes on existing moulding processes.
Duties
* Moulding/Tooling lead for new product introduction to Cork Manufacturing Operations, Project Management lead depending on project responsibilities, scope, and complexity.
* Coordinate key activities related to new moulding machines, mould tools, and auxiliary equipment in conjunction with Project Leads for various capital projects.
* Initiate equipment and mould User Requirement Specifications, vendor selection, requests for quotation, and manage equipment/mould build depending on project scope.
* Participate in design reviews and FAT of new moulding equipment and tooling alongside Project Leads.
* Maintain accurate records/documentation of project activities in line with Quality System and Validation Guidelines.
* Support and lead technology improvements to enhance molding processes for new and existing products, collaborating with Maintenance.
* Optimize processes using latest molding techniques (e.g., Scientific Molding).
* Troubleshoot molding/manufacturing processes to reduce production defects.
* Conduct feasibility trials/DOE’s to determine robust process windows.
* Design processes for manufacture that are automated, innovative, cost-effective, and compliant with Quality and EHS standards.
* Manage and execute production equipment transfer activities into Cork, leading activities for commercialization.
* Execute IQ & OQ for installation.
* Train engineers, technicians, and operators.
* Draft and execute validation protocols under QA guidance, including SOPs.
* Troubleshoot and solve problems efficiently.
* Demonstrate manufacturability of processes.
* Execute PQ under QA guidance.
* Support production, process optimization, scale-up, and handover.
* Ensure compliance with GMP and Safety requirements for new and existing equipment.
Who You Are
* Bachelor’s Degree in Polymer, Polymer Process Engineering, or related Mould Tooling education.
* Advanced training in plastic injection molding processing; RJG Master Molder certification or similar preferred.
* 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience in high-volume Injection Molding.
* Preferably experienced with:
* Medical Device manufacturing
* Validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ)
* Robot programming, hot runner molds, tooling diagnostics, molding machine diagnostics, material handling, and color blending.
* Processing engineering-grade resins.
* Interpreting part and mold drawings.
* Up-to-date knowledge of injection molding technology and capabilities.
* Minitab, Lean Six Sigma techniques.
* AutoCAD proficiency.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
* Excellent communication skills.
