Project RCSI have been awarded a Health Research Board (HRB) Knowledge Translation Award (KEDs) grant to support knowledge translation and dissemination activities for our BRAIN-RESTORE project, which examines the rehabilitation needs of people with a brain tumour in Ireland.
Our research examines the epidemiology of brain tumours in Ireland, the availability of rehabilitation provision in Ireland after a diagnosis and treatment for brain tumours and a prospective cohort of patients and their carers.
The proposed activities provide ways for everyone, including health care policy-makers and professionals, researchers, patients and the public to work together and share learning and ideas.
Summary of Post This is a part-time Research Assistant post for a one-year duration (0.5FTE; this is flexible, for example, alternate 2- and 3-day weeks).
Specific objectives of this award include: To provide educational content (Webinar/short video content) for healthcare professionals (HCP) who manage patients after brain tumour, specifically, advanced training for enhancing function in those with brain tumours and carers and to maximise the impact of the research on policy and practice.
To develop a health summary care tool for patients/carers to use and share with healthcare professionals caring for them during and post-diagnosis and/or treatment for primary brain tumour.
The tool will be co-developed with our BRAIN-RESTORE PPI and action research /HCP group.
To provide a central resource repository (resource library) for information and support to share with patients, carers and the general public.
This will also be used to communicate the findings from BRAIN-RESTORE research to patients and the general public through multiple channels.
This will also include supports for information and infographics, video content and other formats particularly adapted for different deficits required e.g.
difficulty reading.
To co-design a resource on - 'ENHANCING FUNCTION AFTER A BRAIN TUMOUR DIAGNOSIS' - with patients/carers and healthcare professionals which includes the resources required to navigate the process post-diagnosis and/or treatment with an accompanying short informational vide.
Launch event for the resource, video, summary health tool and dedicated online resource (PPI, HCP, research community) To create a Brain Tumour Knowledge Exchange network of knowledge users (World Café), HCPs, researchers, patients and public to launch the information resources and integrate research into clinical practice and policy and to inform/empower patients.
This event will help prioritise areas for further knowledge and evidence generation, identify further funding mechanisms and supporting patients in enhancing function.
Specifically, the duties of the post are: Prepare the educational materials in conjunction with the research team, the project steering committee and Public and Patient involvement (PPI) panel Arrange meetings with HSE, stakeholders and patient and public involvement (PPI) representatives, including minute taking and managing communications Assist in the preparation of summary health tool Planning the World Café event to launch resources and communicating and disseminating research findings from the grant via social media (twitter, websites) Support the write up findings for peer-reviewed publications, reports/policy briefs and presentation to HSE, stakeholders, PPI representatives and others as required Qualifications - (Essential): A Masters or undergraduate qualification in health, social sciences, psychology, communication or a related subject.
Knowledge & Experience - (Essential): Good organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritise objectives Strong communication skills and the ability to confidently interact with stakeholders (clinical and academic background), as well as the general public Good computer skills including use of MS office Strong project and time management skills Experience of using social media to disseminate and promote research findings Knowledge & Experience - (Desirable): Knowledge of the area of health service research and cancer research Experience of literature searching and organising meetings with stakeholder We are all too aware that imposter syndrome and the confidence gap can sometimes stop fantastic candidates putting themselves forward, so please submit an application.
