The Mechanical and Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for the M&E elements of projects during the bidding phase. This role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop competitive proposals that align with client expectations and project objectives. The M&E Estimator will analyse project specifications, drawings, and market data to produce high-quality estimates for bids.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare detailed cost estimates for M&E works, including earthworks, concrete structures, steelworks, finishes, and other architectural components.
* Analyse project drawings, specifications, and scope documents to determine the cost implications of the project.
* Complete comprehensive measurement take-offs as part of overall bid preparation and tender submissions.
* Identify cost risks and provide input on value engineering opportunities to enhance competitiveness.
* Maintain and update unit rates and cost databases to ensure accuracy and consistency in estimates.
* Support the preparation of tender documents, including pricing schedules, bid clarifications, and cost summaries.
* Collaborate with the M&E Estimating Lead and other team members to ensure alignment of estimates with the overall bid strategy.
* Work with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain quotations and ensure competitive pricing.
* Participate in bid review meetings, presenting estimates and justifications for costs.
* Conduct market research to stay updated on material costs, labour rates, and construction methods.
* Contribute to the development of standardized estimating processes and tools.
* Perform any additional tasks or responsibilities relevant to the role as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Previous experience in construction estimating, with a focus on M&E works.
* Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and market trends in the M&E domain.
* Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, or equivalent).
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and scope documents.
