Role context-
Reporting to the Head of Risk Management, this role is responsible for leading implementation and embedding of a ‘fit for purpose’ Operational Risk Management (ORM) framework. The operational of this framework will be consistent with the expectations of a ‘High Impact’ firm under the Central Bank of Ireland’s (CBI’s) PRISM supervision framework, and aligned to the Phoenix Group ERM framework.
This will involve interactions across all areas of the business with a particular focus on Operational Risk Management and best practices in Risk and Control Self –Assessment (RCSA).
A background in 2nd line implementation of Operational Risk Management is preferred. Otherwise, 1st or 3rd line of defence specialism in Operational Risk will be considered.
The role
Responsible for supporting the operation of the ORM framework, including:
1. Oversight, check / challenge of Incidents and Near Miss recording with root cause analysis and lessons learned.
2. Lead annual challenge / review of suite of risk policies;
3. RCSA facilitation and challenge;
4. Operational Risk Assessment facilitation to maintain the Operational Risk register;
5. Driving appropriate usage of Risk Administration System;
6. Advanced user of the Risk Administration System;
7. Working closely with Line 1 Risk & Governance representatives across the business; and
8. Delivery & support of training presentations on risk management related topics.
9. Assist in the production, development, and enhancement of Risk Reporting for use within the necessary internal risk management committees.
10. Awareness and focus on business priorities and key change programmes, providing an appropriate level of risk support and challenge.
11. Support 2nd line of defence team members and interact cooperatively and productively with 1st line of defence to drive positive risk outcomes through the influence of key stakeholders, gaining executive buy-in; and
12. Work with colleagues across the Risk team and wider Group Risk function to proactively identify areas where the business would benefit from a Line 2 risk or assurance review, and support or lead those reviews as required, providing high quality report outputs to the CRO or the relevant “Head of” role within the Risk team to approve.
13. Lead &/or support Line 2 Operational Risk Assurance Reviews of business-as-usual processes, activities, risk universe categories etc. within Standard Life International, providing high quality written output which meets the requirements of the relevant methodology. Present report output to senior stakeholders including presentation at management oversight committees or boards as required.
14. Promote and communicate good risk management practices internally and represent the implementation and embedding of these practices externally to the Phoenix Group and the regulatory bodies (CBI).
Preferred Job Qualifications
15. Relevant professional qualification relating to Risk Management or Compliance.
Skills & Experience
16. 5+ Years Operational Risk Management in the 2nd or 3rd Lines of defence or Management of Operational Risk in the 1st line of defence.
17. Relevant professional qualification would be an advantage ., Accountancy, Risk Management, Actuarial etc.
18. Detailed Knowledge of operational risk and regulatory requirements in relation to financial services, specifically life and pensions.
19. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and gravitas including experience of reporting and presenting at senior management / executive level.
20. Drive and flexibility to undertake a wide range of activities simultaneously.
21. Demonstrate sound risk awareness and judgement.
